Visited here on a Friday evening. We booked early as we had a comedy show to make. It was quiet to start with but became very busy very quickly. Good, friendly service and excellent steak. Reasonably priced wine list and a very tempting dessert menu!

I visited for a late lunch with my friend. The restaurant serves food all day. We both had pate followed by steak pie and chips. The food was excellent, in part the quality of the meat was outstanding. Portions were a good size and because we chose from the set lunch menu, very good value for money. The service was... More

We absolutely love the food and atmosphere here but the milkshakes could be improved but it's all down to personal preference. Could have more ice cream and flavour but that's just how we like them.

Visited here on Saturday night as part of a family dinner for 7. Table wasn't really big enough for seven, staff were pleasant enough but clueless did not appear to know what the other was doing. Standard options on menu but nothing that really says I want that. Food was average at best.

Found this place at the end of the street where we were staying for the weekend. Not much to look at from the outside but inside lies a warm friendly welcome and delicious food. And an even more delicious cocktail menu. Staff were very attentive on a busy night. Be back next time we are in Edinburgh

My wife and I had a meal here prior to a show in the city. The food was nice and the service was speedy considering the volume of customers. Overall cost of the meal was good as we had a couple of cocktails. Would definitely return and recommend.

My husband and I went here for lunch today. We arrived just before 13:00 and they honestly were not that busy. We were seated and before I'd even taken my jacket off I asked where the loo was and the girl who sat us had already turned to leave and ignored my question. We were not told about soups our... We popped into the Smoke Stack on our way to the Playhouse on Saturday night to see if they could fit us in for some food. Thankfully they were and I'm so glad as the food was amazing. I had a cheese burger and my other half had the club sandwich and we were very impressed :) Cocktails were amazing... More

Business trip to Edinburgh, this restaurant was around the corner from my hotel. Nice atmosphere, friendly and a decent menu. Burger was nicely cooked with local produce, goats cheese starter was awesome. Not sure the milkshakes are worth the money but overall a really nice place to grab a dinner or a drink.

Ate here with my wife and nine year old son and it totally lived up to our expectations. The service was really good - my wife asked for a mix of chicken and beef fajitas and was nicely and apologetically told they couldn't do that, a few minutes later the waitress returned to say that she'd asked the chef and... Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
