Went here for a family birthday lunch. Place looks small from the street as there are limited tables at street level but has lots of tables downstairs.. Not sure if that's only open at busier times and in the evening. Food was very tasty and...More

Booked into this restaurant for my wife's 50th birthday in February, couldn't have been happier. The staff here were all really helpful and friendly. The restaurant itself was decorated lovely and cosy. The food was top notch. We even got a free birthday shot. Will...More

Visited here whilst staying in Edinburgh, we didn't book and managed to get a table, although it was very busy when we went. The staff were great and there was lots of choice on the menu. The food was lovely and well prepared and went...More

We booked for dinner on a Saturday night. The menu is authentic and has a wide variety of Mexican food. The quality of the food was excellent - all of it tasted amazing! We also shared a pitcher of margaritas, strong but good. Service was...More

Wow, what a find. Quite easy to miss from the outside and size is deceiving. We turned up late on a Friday night and they managed to seat 5 of us in the huge downstairs-area. Huge range of choice of drinks and food. Very good...More

From the outside you wouldnt think this place is as big as it is. It's beautifully decorated with a Mexican theme, the staff are welcoming and helpful. My partner had the chimichanga he stated it was the best he'd ever had. So that's a statement...More

I've read lots of reviews saying it's not traditional Mexican food. I can't comment about that. All I know us that the food was tasty, with decent sized portions, and lovely service. There is also a kids menu too - smaller portions of some favourites....More

Down to Edinburgh for an overnight stay on business and came across this fantastic little Mexican restaurant. Inside is colourful and traditional Mexican. We were greeted promptly and taken downstairs to our seats. Sangria was delicious and my friend had a margarita which also got...More

The menu looked great and we really struggled to choose so we were really looking forward to our meal. My food was cold and the others were just about warm which was disappointing . The first waitress was excellent and took the food away and...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

The Gonzalez family opened Viva Mexico in August 1984, intending to bring the true taste of Mexico to Edinburgh, and 31 years later we are still striving to do the same. In the intervening years there have been many changes, notably in how the restaurant has grown, but we are still trying to do what we set out to do all those years ago - to give all our guests a real flavour of Mexico. With three rooms spread over two floors the restaurant is equally suited for romantic dinners for two, quick business lunches or parties, the back room particularly can cater for a single group of up to 25 seated at tables or 40 as a buffet.
