Our recent visit was pre-booked on a Friday evening. The OB menu is always interesting if a little short on number of starters. My choice was chargrilled Asparagus (local we were assured) with pea puree and black crowdie which was excellent; my other half went for the fresh Mussels in a classic white wine, garlic and cream sauce, as good... Excellent dinner with the family. The food is very good. The muscles were divine. The main courses were scrumptious. The desserts were marvelous. The service was great everyone was very nice. we would love to come back to this restaurant for dinner. The staff was very friendly with kids.(written by a nine-year-old.)

We were cold and hungry and the restaurant we planed to was closed. Then we saw this, a lovely place. The waiters were soooo nice. Guess they were partners? We ordered soup, mussels, pasta and cheese cake. They were good. The only problem is the hand cut chips! They were soft!!! Probably the thin ones would be better...

We went here on a Wednesday and it was packed. Good music which was at a nice volume. Romantic setting without been too stuffy. The waitress we had was very friendly and managed to put up with my slightly irritating husband. The food was served and we both enjoyed our meals thoroughly. We will definitely be back

My sister and I really had a very unforgettable dining experience in this lovely bistro on a Saturday dinnertime. From freshly cooked food and warm service to the modern decorated restaurant yet cosy dining experience, nothing is bad. The most impressive is certainly food. The bistro is specialised in cooking modern British cuisine, but also has daily special ranging from... More

The food and staff were excellent and when one of us asked for a gluten free lunch the staff were unfazed and gave their full attention to make sure everyone was satisfied with their lunch. Nothing was too much bother and all within lovely surroundings. Food and wine was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant.

We were attempting to help our son move flats and celebrate Mothers Day! We changed our booking a couple of times and then were late due to hassle with getting access to his new place. We were welcomed and served with lovely food, seated in a table near to the window so we could keep an eye on our dog... More

Possibly the best burger I've ever had, recommended by the owners of the B and B we were staying in, we weren't disappointed. Cracking waitress very chatty and friendly. Hopefully be back pity I don't stay closer or I'd be a regular.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
