This was an extraordinary experience in a magnificent, lavishly furnished, lavishly decorated, historic house. The menu lived up to the setting and the staff were courteous and attentive. Not cheap, but value for money. I would have given it five stars if my table had not been set in the entry to the restaurant.

Lovely building in well kept grounds, very attractive approach to the hotel an buildings. Great staff. Beautiful restaurant, ornate but comfortable. We had the set menu which was well presented, with a good choice. Huge wine menu, most of which were out of our price range. However we had the best bottle of alsace white wine we have ever had... Rhubarb restaurant is available to non residents of Prestonfield House Hotel and of which it forms part. The restaurant is split between two large elegant rooms and thus each room gives a feeling of private intimacy. The tables are well spaced and the seating comfortable. The window seats enjoy a view over the adjacent gardens/parkland. We ordered from both the... More

With a choice of a excellent festive set menu or A La Carte (both at sensible prices) my fiance and I opted for the Foie Gras and Partridge starters with a Chateaubriand main with a mixed sharer desert. The wine recommendation was excellent and at the sensible end of the pricing. (There were some very expensive options). All courses were... More

We dined here during our one night stay at the Prestonfield House Hotel and the restaurant was just as spectacular as the hotel itself. From the friendly, but professional service to the incredibly innovative and delicious food, the only thing I would fault would be the wine list, which is extensive but way overpriced and without a huge range of... The Rhubarb restaurant is a special place. The surroundings are superb. How many restaurants have views of peacocks wandering around the gardens and ruined castles in the distance? The room itself is dramatic and elegant - the food has a lot to live up to before it arrives. And can it? It does! Every course was delicious but a special... More

Every time we go to the Prestonfield, especially during Christmas time, it is a very pleasant experience in a unique atmosphere. Enjoying your cocktail downstairs and your tea or whisky upstairs in one of the charming rooms on 1st floor is like living in a different century in an elegante country house. Amazing wine list. Wonderful excellent service.

We stayed and dined at prestonfield house. The in house restaurant Rhubarb serves a wonderful selection of food and wine. We were there during Christmas so we're lucky enough to try the Christmas dinner menu which was outstanding - even if not staying at the hotel the food alone is worth the trip out to Rhubarb

Thank Phil H

Minimalists and speed-eaters, avert your eyes. Rhubarb has arrived in all its opulent, theatrical, lingering glory. Set in twenty acres of gorgeous parkland yet a short drive from the Royal Mile, Rhubarb and its hotel home, Prestonfield, are the creation of James Thomson, who bought you the Witchery and Tower restaurants. A black-kilted porter escorts you to Rhubarb's two oval Regency dining rooms decorated in mad baroque splendour, with giant chandeliers, silk wall coverings, and ancestral portraits. The menu, created by chef John McMahon, uses classic techniques and modern inspiration to transform ingredients sourced from small artisan suppliers into sublime grub. Try starter of Gewurztraminer poached foie gras au tronchon with pickled cherries, main course of breast of Loue chicken on tarragon risotto, and top it with the signature assiette of rhubarb desserts. There are more than five hundred wines to choose from, and more than one hundred malts. Linger after your meal in the Leather or Tapestry room and let your senses swoon.
