We spent the evening here to celebrate a big birthday having found a special offer online. Arrived early to take advantage of pre-dinner drinks upstairs, in lounge with huge log fires, and snow swirling outside. So atmospheric! Food was lovely, and service good throughout. Would...More

Marvellous experience, from the welcome, to the wonderfully decorated snug for pre-dinner drinks, and then the restaurant itself. Food amazing (especially the Chateaubriand) and a superb wine list. Fabulous from start to finish - you wont be disappointed!

Came here for a special birthday meal. Lovely dining room- felt like being in a stately home- albeit a little cold! The blanket the staff brought for my knees helped though! Food was beautifully presented and service attentive. The main course would have benefitted from...More

We were staying in the hotel (so travel/drink not an issue). The setting is of course exceptional. The warm, sensuous decor, log fires and candles will put anyone at ease and set the mood for enjoying fine dining. Well the dining was fine, but not...More

This magnificent restaurant at the incomparable Preston Field House is always a destination stop when on holiday in Edinburgh. My recent dining experience was delightful. My sirloin steak, tender and savoury, was made even more delicious with the peppercorn sauce. The thrice-cooked French friend potatoes...More

We went at lunch time, so it was quite informal. Perhaps you could phone to ask - they are very helpful.

Hi there, I agree with the previous reply which said smart casual is totally acceptable. But the style and elegance of the hotel means you can dress up to and not look out of place.

Minimalists and speed-eaters, avert your eyes. Rhubarb has arrived in all its opulent, theatrical, lingering glory. Set in twenty acres of gorgeous parkland yet a short drive from the Royal Mile, Rhubarb and its hotel home, Prestonfield, are the creation of James Thomson, who bought you the Witchery and Tower restaurants. A black-kilted porter escorts you to Rhubarb's two oval Regency dining rooms decorated in mad baroque splendour, with giant chandeliers, silk wall coverings, and ancestral portraits. The menu, created by chef John McMahon, uses classic techniques and modern inspiration to transform ingredients sourced from small artisan suppliers into sublime grub. Try starter of Gewurztraminer poached foie gras au tronchon with pickled cherries, main course of breast of Loue chicken on tarragon risotto, and top it with the signature assiette of rhubarb desserts. There are more than five hundred wines to choose from, and more than one hundred malts. Linger after your meal in the Leather or Tapestry room and let your senses swoon.
