We popped in here on Saturday and were lucky enough to get a table, its always busy and you cant book or really wait so it can be a bit hit and miss. You order at the service desk which was fine with us both going for the poached eggs and local bowers sausages. The food came in very good... More

Maxi's is a great place for brunch/ lunch. They offer a range of breakfast dishes and the soups are amazing. The cafe has a great atmosphere and is always packed. Highly recommend!

Visited this place in a group of 4 after walking around Stockbridge all morning so we were ravenous. Two of us went up to order and then sat down. The waiter said he'd hold our orders till our other two friends had ordered so our food would all come together. However, the first two orders came out and then our... More

Visited with a couple of friends for a light lunch today. Drinks served immediately but after nearly 30 minutes enquired when the food might arrive. Told there was a backlog. Another 10 minutes went by before the food finally arrived, without apology I might add. Come on, clearly they'd just forgotten! A bowl of soup, a bacon roll and a... More

I knew Maxi's really well - before it changed hands and am pleased to report I think I like it even better now. certainly the decor is funkier.

Managed to manoeuvre past some people on a bench to get a seat. Nice and cosy! Shared a nice bench with some people and were seen to without much of a wait, despite it being very busy. My partner and I both went for breakfast options with my partner going for spicy eggs (which were delcious, could have done with... More

Busy place that serves a good variety of breakfasts from the healthy to the not so healthy! Interesting decor too as located in an old fish shop - evidenced by the remaining tiles on the walls. Really liked the flavour of the coffee too. My only criticism was the price. At over £11 with my coffee - I thought it... More

We choose a mug soup of the day (cauliflower and vegetables) with smoke salmon, cream cheese and spinach in a bagel. Grilled chicken, handmade pesto, natural tomato, grilled cheddar cheese in a panini. We had an amazing strawberry brownie cheesecake with a cappuccino to finish...

Funky little cafe with a small menu but lots of flavour. Dinner was great, thoroughly enjoyed the popcorn as a complimentary starter. Breakfast was busy & slow service with no tea (?!) as sold out however the granola & smoothie was YUMMY! Love that dogs are welcome :)

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
