As the title says, the best fish and chips in town, without a doubt! I'm reliably assured that other food is available, which is equally delicious, but I can never see past the fish supper, its just so delicious. Go try it, you'll agree 100%

Me and my colleagues sometime need to work close to L'Alba D'Oro, and this is our number 1 choice to get some food on those occasions - we have been in twice in the last week. The food is always very nice, with nice sized portions, and the staff in here are extremely welcoming, pleasant and friendly Highly recommend L'Alba... More

My husband ordered a fish supper on Saturday night and when it was delivered it was cold. The chips were also scraps and certainly not worth the £11. He phoned to complain and was told that they "weren't bothered". Not good customer service at all!!

I must say as a resident of Edinburgh all my life, this chip shop is up there with the best. I also travel through to Fife and experience famous places like the Anstruther chippy and L'Alba D'Oro is just as good, if not better! The ability to keep up with the freshness of the produce with those that are on... More

We tried some chippies here and there, but this one is just amazing. We dropped in by chance thanks to an advice by the round the corner bar tender. We had plain fish and chips. An amazing experience! Filippo the owner is very kind and funny, we had some chat in Italian and we felt at home quite instantly (ah... More

I popped in on the way home from training, and attracted by the aroma, tried the smoked sausage. In contrast to the dreadful things in other shops, this is a meaty bratwurst style sausage with lots of flavour. Excellent chips too. Ignore the negative reviews, keep coming.

Been going here for years and have mostly been very pleased. Last time we ordered the food arrived freezing cold. We gave it another go however thinking it would be a one one. Placed order to be told it would be an hour 15 mins wait for 3 fish and chips. An hour and a half past, phoned up to... More

Thanks for your review. I apologise for your negative experience. We may have been very busy when you ordered, but you would have received a confirmation email with the estimated delivery time. Furthermore, orders are always freshly cooked before dispatch, therefore it is almost impossible that it arrived freezing cold. However, had you contacted me directly I would have gladly... More

I’m not fully qualified to judge fish and chips, but this New Town spot seemed popular with folks who know what they are looking for. Fish suppers (with chips) are £6.50; the haddock breading is crispy and delicious. The special of the day was calamari, and the guys ahead of us ordered the fried haggis, though we stuck with fish... We got take away from here recently. I got a chip buttie which was huge and delicious. My friends had pizza and hot/ spicy chicken. We all enjoyed our meals! I would love to try more of the food on the menu. It all looked so good!

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
