I have been coming to this restaurant for many years now - it is usually our first stop in Edinburgh during the festival - and rarely does it disappoint. The food is always delicious and the menus have an 'authentic' French feel to them with...More

Our overseasoned- since when did fish soup become spicy?- fish soup arrived boiling in the soup dishes ( ? Just been microwaved) about one minute after I'd received my aperitif. My husband's ceps with spelt risotto were tasteless, lacking garlic or herbs. My cassoulet was...More

We went here on our second night in Edinburgh and were quiet disappointed when we left the place. The 28 pond steak was okayish but served without any sides (to be ordered separately) and my duck didn't taste like duck in any way. Both were...More

We went for the fridge special lunch of a main and glass of wine. The place was very busy but had a great atmosphere. There seemed to be many regulars and all the food looked good and we'll presented.

We always enjoy this charming French restaurant, located quite close to Waverley Station. Service is polite and efficient. Meals are obviously made from high quality ingredients, beautifully cooked and presented. Pork belly was a highlight this time. Cheeses attract a supplement but are worthwhile. Good...More

We've visited Edinburgh several times and somehow never managed to find this place before - it's one of many excellent restaurants in a town that has several of them. What distinguishes this from the others is its distinctive French feel and largely relaxed atmosphere. La...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

The restaurant in Jeffrey Street is only about 150 metres to the Junction where the Royal Mile/High St. starts . It is also only a little further downhill to the rear entrance of Waverley Station.

Close to the Royal Mile, La Garrigue is a low-key yet chic French restaurant in the buzzing heart of Edinburgh city centre. Smart hyacinth and white-panelled walls strike a stylishly understated tone, with simple wooden seating and bright windows offering views over Carlton Hill. Cuisine is similarly deceptively rustic, specialising in signature dishes from the rural Languedoc region of southern France heartened by deft modern cooking.
