Amazing food with professional unstuffy service in a relaxed setting. Thanks to all concerned. (We have eaten in two and three star Michelin restaurants which were not as satisfying.)

Wonderful dining experience. Service was attentive. We ordered from the a la carte menu, which included 3 courses. Dishes were prepared in interesting ways and were quite flavorful. The beef tartar is one example, as well as the John Dory. Request a table in the...main dining room and not the small room on the right side as you enter.More

Though I rarely do this, t's easy to award this restaurant 5 stars since both the food and service were on the highest level. It's as much theatre as it is dinner.. And it is expensive. It deserves its Michelin rating. Some of us had...the wine pairing and tasting menu. And others ordered a la carte. There were a few little surprises (amuse bouche) that arrived for all of us. They did not require that everyone at the table do the same and they managed the pacing very well. Their philosophy is based on "nature to plate" and all of the food is Scottish seasonal produce, relying on local farms. The decor is dark and sophisticated, with a window opening onto the kitchen.More

This was our first Michelin experience for our first wedding anniversary. Been looking forward to it for months. The food was exceptional as expected. So were cocktails and wine paring. The staff were lovely and attentive and we had and amazing time while there. Value...for money too. However, I have to give only 4 out of 5 stars. This is because we were charged £90 for not turning up. My wife noticed this in the taxi after we left. She called the restaurant to make sure this wasn’t the case and only a mistake as we were clearly there. But, the money came out the account. My wife emailed them. They acknowledged there was another table booked in a different name but with our contact details etc and we would get our money back in 5-10 days as a “Gesture of goodwill on this occasion”. That statement seemed a bit snippy to me like it was our fault. Took a bit of the shine off the whole experience to be honest. I would still recommend as everything except this was great and hopefully this was just a one off error.More

My husband and I ate at the Kitchin for my birthday recently. We had the prestige tasting menu with wine pairings - an expensive lunch! Firstly the service was very attentive and pleasant, and mostly the food was delicious. The canapés were a bit dull...to begin with but thereafter each course was well balanced and tasty. We had to ask them to slow down somewhat as we felt rather rushed between courses - we wanted to savour and digest the food / experience! A let down however was the wine pairing - we were never shown any bottle of what we were drinking, and altogether the wines were OK but nothing special - culminating in a ‘natural wine’ which basically was pretty unpleasant and we sent it back - even the sommelier admitted he didn’t really care for it either!! So were they just trying to get rid of it? Why would they serve something they didn’t rate themselves? We discovered on the way home that we should have had coffee/ tea and petit fours included to end the meal, but these were never offered so we did feel a bit short changed. ( our son had bought the lunch for us) So all in all a very nice meal, beautifully presented, but disappointed with the wine pairings, and the lack of the coffee and petit fours which had already been paid for. I doubt we will rush back.More

I returned to dine at Kitchin 2 years after a previous excellent experience to a different and certainly less satisfying/satisfactory experience. The service was slow and at time spotty (thought the wait staff was pleasant), and the wine pairings didn’t match as well. It would...seem from my experience that unless you get the premium pairing that won’t even bring out the bottle of wine to show you while quickly rattling off the flavor profile. Given the lack of windows in the dining room and the low light levels the ambiance was dark. As to the food (I did the surprise premium menu) , while I appreciated the fresh Scottish sourced ingredients, only one dish truly stood out and that’s the waygu-Scottish beef combo with mashed potatoes and mushrooms. The canapés were lackluster. The low rating is based on all these factors and when compared to such outstanding meals-service-wine at other Michelin 1*s in Edinburgh like Martin Wishart, the Heron and Timberyard. Sad to say but certainly not good value for money!More

My wife took me here for my birthday, as close friends had been a few months ago. We really looked forward to it and we were not disappointed. The service from the minute we entered was excellent, made to feel very welcome. Great selection of...cocktails, which we did sample. First class. The excellent service continued in the restaurant by the friendly staff. We opted for the a la Carte menu, which was just delicious. Each course was fresh and presented to a very high standard. The experience was just great . We would highly recommend The Kitchin for a special occasion.More

Outstanding food and a wonderful experience! Chef Tom over delivered on his promise of “making his guests forget their troubles at the door and float out after the meal!” The Kitchin provided a proper end to a family pilgrimage to Scotland. Every dish was delightful...and the wine pairings were sensational. The team also delivered a ‘Surprise’ for my father’s 80th birthday! This all culminated in ‘the perfect experience!’ Hats off to Chef Tom, Fabio, Juan, and Carolina for.a truly memorable evening! With my sincere gratitude.More

Visited Edinburgh just to come here for lunch after reading such wonderful reviews. It’s a little away from the city centre but a reasonably priced taxi ride. We had a fabulous dining experience and loved that Tom came round each table to speak to the...guests. Although, it was interesting to note the lack of diversity in the open kitchen, with every chef that we could see being male. It was a lovely touch that we got to know the provenance of all our dishes through the provision of a local map, that also makes a nice keepsake. The Kitchin Ale also proved popular! Overall, well worth the visit.More

I’ve been looking forward to this since my wife enjoyed lunch here a few years ago. For me, it did t quite live up to expectations. The restaurant is nice, the service is good, but the dishes I had lacked flavour. The skill of the...cooking is plainly evident, but the scallops starter was bland, the John Dory was ok, and the chocolate dessert lacked…. chocolate. Having said this, my wife enjoyed all of her dishes, which is why it receives a 4*, as my meal was only a 3 at best. Nice to see Tom come out and have a word with the guests. I just don’t think it is worth the £420 bill for 2 (and we were careful) - some of the wine prices were ridiculous. If you charge top end prices, you expect to be wowed, and I wasn’t.More

The Kitchin is hard to get into - we had to book 2 months in advance - and it’s not cheap, but the experience really makes it worthwhile. We had the surprise tasting menu- which was very well put together with each course perfectly presented...and delightful to eat. My favourite was the halibut fish course while the scallops and the duck also stood out. The accompanying wines were also interesting, some were exceptional. Staff were friendly and attentive and the evening just flew past. Overall the meal took nearly 3 hours but we never felt we were waiting around. The service was just perfectly measured.More
