We were seeing a show at the festival theatre this week and popped in without a reservation. We were pleased that we did. Great old fashioned Italian with a great old fashioned Italian welcome. We both had pastas but I have to say the pizzas looked amazing and would probably go that route on a future trip. Ice creams were... More

I visited here with my family. The food is fantastic, the pizza's are well sized and the deserts are spectacular. Well worth a visit and the staff are incredibly friendly. Will be back!

Ordered a £11.95 pasta (Fettucine Nona) from this restaurant via Deliveroo. The order came without cutlery, so I called Deliveroo assuming there had been a mix-up. The Deliveroo operator called the restaurant, who said they don't provide cutlery with orders. I'm sorry, but am I supposed to eat with my hands? I ordered food because I was working away from... A really warm welcome from a smiley young Italian with glasses, he was very courteous and attentive. The meal was delicious and came quickly as the restaurant filled up before 6pm midweek! I Had Salada al pollo, chips very hot and garlic bread, with Oreo sundae to finish. Delicious! Would definitely recommend as a place to eat pre show.

This place is so welcoming, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The food is amazing, flavoursome and fresh off the hob. Only problem is the toilets are down stairs so I don't know how the disabled manage😳 However, unless you are disabled, this is the place to go for pure Italian . Another bonus is that all the... We were just going to get an ice cream and a cuppa but after seeing the pictures of the different ice creams we went a bit mad and had huge ones! They were very delicious.

As I went to uni in this city and recently returned for a short break I had to visit this restaurant again, it's wonderful. The food is lovely, piping hot and incredibly tasty and the service is second to none. I enjoyed a wonderful pasta, baked in the oven and so tasty, my partner ate Calzone and again it was... More

We first ventured into Ciao Roma for their award-winning gelato, but the excellent service and consistent food quality keep bringing us back. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes. Definitely stop through here when in Edinburgh!

I visited Ciao Roma for lunch before attending the Festival Theatre opposite with my granddaughter. We received a very warm welcome and were very impressed with the interior paintings! The Children's menu was very good value and the portions more than adequate. The adult menu was typically authentic Italian fare and I like that you could get a smaller portion... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
