Book a table for 2, glad we did as the place was almost full. The Canny man is divided into a bar and dining. We were shown straight to our table, although a bit squashed it was OK. The service was superb and very friendly - the food was excellent and cooked perfectly. The beer was well kept and from... More

Lovely, very well located hostelry with a most interesting and engaging internal decor. Unfortunately all of its potential is spoiled by some needlessly snooty staff, high prices and pretty limited menu. There's no reason at all why the staff should not be more friendly and helpful - all it does is deter future visits. Perhaps a pep talk from management... More

This is a truly idiosyncratic pub, and not in the sense of "deliberately quirky". It dedicates itself to offering excellent beers, wines and whiskies (and, I suppose, other spirits) in a calm peaceful environment so that you can sit in comfort and talk to your friends. The decor is distinctive - like a curio and antique shop, and indeed one... More

Heard a lot of things about this bar and have been in about 3 times in last 3 months for drinks and the service is great. Would say staff go out of their way to be helpful.

Just look at the pictures. You have to visit. If you're in Embra and don't drop in for a pint, you will have missed out. Excellent pub, good beer selection, quirky deco, lots to see and admire.

This is the type of pub I wish we had in Belfast. Just the right size, traditional feel to it and very friendly and efficient staff. What more could you ask for in your local? Recommended.

A historic pub (from 1871) in the posh suburb of Morningside. Previously it was famous for its rude service which has changed over the years. Very much the preserve of the posh local set but worth a visit just to see it though perhaps not for a repeat visit.

Having spent a lot of time in Edinburgh and visited this pub on several occasions I have experienced pretty hostile service. The venue is really great, good selections of drinks but quite over priced. Think the service may put me off going back in the future....

Spent an evening here during the festive season which brought back fond memories of drinking here when a student.... a long time ago. While you couldn't really complain too much about the service.... efficient but snooty, you can't help thinking they are trying far too hard. Seems they have forgotten that this is a Public Bar and not a yacht... More
