Looking at the reviews I was excited about this restaurant and it was a huge disappointment. It was over priced and less than average food. I had mussels which were small, especially considering they are sourced locally, the sauce was not nice. My mussels had...More

My wife and I had a nice meal here before walking up The Royal Mile to the Castle for the Tattoo. Edinburgh is a busy spot in August and Monteiths was as well that night, but the service was quite good, the drinks and food...More

The entire experience was amazing. Food, drinks, atmosphere, service... recommend the chowder for appetizer and halibut for main. Everything else was very good too, these were just the best!

Booked this on the strength of strong recommendations but it severely let itself down. Four of us had finished our meals before the other three had received theirs. Two of the steaks had to be returned as they weren't cooked then one arrived back with...More

Interesting cocktail list with a fabulous Negroni with prosecco which is well worth returning for. Happy vibe in a busy hidden gem. Did feel a little claustrophobic in the restaurant - as tightly packed and no daylight. Will def return for drinks.

We loved this little place! It's really charming and pretty. The food was very good, although there is only one vegetarian option on the menu (but it was delicious!), and their Ruby Martini is absolutely amazing! The staff was friendly and polite although the service...More

Strange that we have visited Edinburgh for the last eleven years and never known this marvellous restaurant existed! Although we have avoided a lot of places on the Royal Mile in the past we actually stumbled on Monteiths completely by accident. A stroke of luck...More

Spent a very pleasant two hours here drinking cocktails and eating with family and friends. Cocktails were delicious and very well served. Food was excellent and I am told the venison was amazing. The lemon sole was delicious. Everyone happy with their food. The atmosphere...More

I like over the top restaurants. Monteith's is just that, over the top with its thicket path to a scotch selection almost unequalled ( whisky experience #1 ) A staff that's well versed on pairing scotch and food . Oh and food that is worth...More

8 of us ate here and the food was just fabulous! Not cheap though, but that's OK! What bugged me was the wine: first bottle was £23, second bottle was £29, and the third was £39: all poor! Come on: if you're going to charge...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

Monteiths prides itself on using great quality ingredients that are locally sourced where possible. Provenance is hugely important and we work closely with our suppliers to ensure that our food comes from farm, to plate as quickly as possible. Although we frequently change our menu to reflect the changing seasons we also have a range of specials including dry aged fillet steaks and chateaubriand available. There is also a selection of seasonal dishes from the sea including fresh Scottish lobster and oysters.

We also serve a wide range of hand crafted cocktails, beers & wines from around the world. Whether you're looking for lunch, dinner or drinks Monteiths on the Royal Mile is a must.
