Finally made a booking to use a gift voucher I received. Service was excellent without being overbearing. Food was fantastic. From the starter snacks ( I even ate an oyster for the first time) to the dessert every course was a great culinary experience. It’s...expensive but worth it for a treat. Only slight downside for me was I didn’t see a downstairs toilet. These were upstairs, beautifully refurbished and in the same location when this was a hotel. Sometimes. although I don’t have a registered condition or a blue badge, I have difficulty with stairs so a ground floor facility would have been good. But all in all a lovely place for a special night out.More

Booked at short notice for a lunch whilst visiting St Andrew’s university. Chose the summer lunch menu that was 3 courses. Portions are small and bread an extra - but it’s a lovely corn loaf so glad we tried it. Lovely mocktails and good service...but left a little underwhelmed for some reason.More

Returned here again after last trip in January. Everything was perfect: ambiance, service, accompanying drinks and of course the food. Simply exquisite and executed perfectly. We even got our desserts served by Dean himself. A real pleasure. Treat yourself!

5 star dining from start to finish. Service excellent. Attentive, knowledgeable staff. Cocktail amazing which was an expresso martini. Wine exceptional, extensive drinks menu available. We went for the 5 course tasting menu which was definitely 5 star. Bread beautiful, all of the courses were...divine. Chef Dean banks has got a beautiful restaurant. I’ll definitely be back. I’ve tried a number of fine dining restaurants but this was the best. Thank you for a great meal and evening.More

We have just enjoyed a truly magnificent meal at Haar. The tasting menu was exquisite in terms of the presentation and taste. All staff were courteous and professional. Each dish was eloquently described by the attentive staff. We added the lobster dish as a treat...to the set nenu and we were not disappointed. This dish in particular was exceptional. This is fine dining at its best underpinned by a chef/proprietor ( Dean Banks) who is clearly at the top of his game and supported by a highly professional team We will wax lyrical about this meal for a long time and will definitely return. Many thanks to all at Haar for facilitating such a memorable culinary experience.More

Our first visit to Haar, St Andrews, and, we were totally impressed at the superb cooking on offer, the warm welcome from the FOH team and the overall ambiance in the restaurant. We loved the inclusive approach of sitting with one of the Chefs, as...he constructed our snack course starter. A terrific & novel start to our culinary evening at Haar. We opted for the five course tasting menu. We selected our own bottle of wine from an extensive wine list rather than the accompanying wines on offer for each course. We enjoyed all the dishes from fish to meat with all of them excelling in flavour, & presentation. However, our personal favourites was the trout dish and dessert. Both outstandingly good & beautifully cooked. A massive shout out & praise to Beth, Hannah and Geraldo, whom we personally interacted with during our visit. These folks are a credit to Haar restaurant and the wider hospitality sector. Be proud of your work. Haar restaurant was excellent and we look forward to a return visit soon. Keep up the great work and thank you to all the team for a superb first visit to Haar.More

Nice welcome & we were shown to pre lunch table & brought drinks menus. These were followed by lunch menus with list of optional extras which we declined & the lunch menus removed. No one came for a drinks order or asked if we’d like...the wine pairing. I had to stop a passing waitress to order our drinks. The snack counter & chef were great but I had to ask him if we could have the wine pairing. We were taken next to our lunch table. Trout course was excellent as was the banana dessert but the main course fell WAY short of what we’ve experienced in other fine dining restaurants. Beef was barely warm, seaweed potatoes were hot but dry & there was a tiny dot of a thick sauce all served on a cold plate. We returned these and better replacements were brought (with less beef - we had eaten one small slice of the first offering). Wine service was very good but food service was patchy with each course brought by someone different. The first main course was brought downstairs by a young chef who bolted back upstairs like a frightened rabbit. Bread would have been £5 ea extra and our coffee at £4,50 we thought was overpriced and without a petit four, shortbread or tablet. Overall disappointed in the experience & not nearly as good as the prices would lead you to believe ……….More

A fabulous time from start to finish!! We were warmly welcomed and taken to our room. The room was tastefully decorated with everything you needed from ghd straighteners, robes, mini bar, tea, coffee and the most amazing view to the sea. The products in the bathroom were lovely(so much...so I have ordered some for at home!) We then went to the restaurant for dinner, again the staff were very attentive! The meal was absolutely amazing! We had the 5 course tasting menu and added all 3 extras as we couldn’t pick only 1! We were not disappointed with any! The portions were very generous. I would definitely recommend the signature lobster dish. Breakfast in the morning was also fabulous with a great choice! We could not fault anything and would highly recommend! 5 * food 5 * staff Thanks Haar for a fantastic time in St Andrews.More

Our first visit to Haar today and we certainly weren't disappointed. Delicious 5 course tasting menu and impeccable service. A wonderful relaxed service and with every course, a real treat, beautifully presented. Well worth the 2 hour drive to get to St Andrews.

Just left the Haar and I have to rave about the amazing food and outstanding service. Atmosphere was relaxing but upbeat for a Thursday night and decor was unique. Staff were friendly and attentiv. Very well paced with staff making sure we were having a...good time throughout (indeed we were!). Over all world class service and top notch food. Well done everyone and we’ll be back soon with friends!More

We were given a lunch voucher for Haar as a gift at Christmas. Last Sunday we used the voucher and enjoyed a wonderful meal. Staff very welcoming and friendly. The personal attention from start to finish was lovely without being overbearing. The food was amazing...and we enjoyed the descriptions of the ingredients used as the food arrived at our table. The tarte tatin was amazing and delicious. We felt that perhaps a little more of the coconut ice cream would have been a welcome addition. Thank you all at Haar. We would love to make a return visit soon.More

No dress code. You could tell couples were there for special occasions and dressed up, others were dressed in golf clothes. The inside is not "formal" by any means.
