My wife and I have been dining in this restaurant since the day after it opened, and have always enjoyed the quality of the food, usually steak, and the service. On Wednesday 5th Feb, we both ordered rib-eye steaks as usual. The steaks were cooked perfectly, medium rare as ordered, but the quality of the meat was disappointing. We both discovered a fair amount of gristle in the meat, which we do not expect to find in an establishment which, as the name suggests, prides itself on the quality of it's steak. As stated before, the steaks were perfectly cooked, but at £30 each, the quality should have been better. When asked if the meal had been satisfactory, we indicated the remains on the plate, and expressed our disappointment, but essentially received a shrug of the shoulders in return. Unlikely to go back again

Hi Sam S, Many thanks for your feedback on your last visit to us at Cocktails & Steaks. I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the steaks on this occasion. The quality can vary slightly and is not always obvious prior to cooking and serving the dish. We have not changed supplier or noticed a reduction in quality. I am most disappointed in the fact no compensation or apology was offered from the team. Breakfast is 10/10

Myself and my boyfriend come to cocktails and steak quite regularly so when we heard they were doing breakfast we couldn’t wait to try it and I’m so glad we did it was absolutely delicious I had eggs benedict It was cooked to perfection so tasty and great quality. The coffee is 5* ..the waiter was so polite and attentive we loved Mocktails and steaks will definitely be returning for breakfast and of course will be back for of favourite steak place - DELICIOUS!

Amazing ...!

A must try - the atmosphere, staff, food and wine were 10/10 Best steak I have had - If your a steak lover you will not be disappointed. Restaurant is beautifully decorated and atmosphere is cosy and relaxed. The staff are lovely and the service was great. A total treasure of a restaurant in Uddingston and one we will return too.

Memorable Meal (For The Wrong Reasons)

Having been to Cocktails and Steaks previously, I booked a table for Saturday 1st February.at 1300 hours for 7 people as a birthday celebration. What a fiasco. It took almost 2 hours to have our meal and we only had starters and a main course, no deserts and no coffees (all we wanted was out of there). Not once was there an acknowledgment by staff that there was a problem, never mind an apology for the excessive delay. To make matters worse when the food did arrive it was cold and served on cold plates, apart from the soup which was hot, as it should be. Giving feedback on paying the bill resulted in an apology and a deduction of 20% from the food bill which while appreciated was no compensation for the horrible experience. On arrival it was noted that most of the ground floor was taken up by a very large party of diners. Why were so many bookings accepted for the same time? (greed?) This situation could so easily have been avoided by proper management of the bookings. To cap it all the confirmation email stated the following:- Leave Time: We respectfully require your table back by 3:00 PM

Hi JohnL, Let me once again apologise about the service timings during your visit. It was myself that spoke to you on the day and as you rightly point out there was a delay in serving your guests and we once again apologise about this sincerely. It is, however, disappointing you chose to post your comments word for word on more than one online platform despite the conversation we had at the end of your visit. Unless you felt damaging a small local. independent businesses reputation would somehow make up for the dealy you experienced. As I explained there would have been no delay had as there was a sufficient gap between your reservation and the large group you mentioned and greed was not a factor in anyway shape or form on our very small margins. The main factor which I explained but of course was not any fault of your parties was the major flood in our kitchen we discovered on opening up at 11am. There was a burst mains pipe that had meant we were put behind in the days preparation by at least two hours. We could have of course called your party to explain and either cancel or delay but felt this would have been disappointing for yourselves and we did all we could to manage the situation. I also explained in addition to the discount given on the day we would compensate you on your next visit too which a note was has been added to your guest profile and will be followed through on if you hopefully do decide to return and give us another opportunity to look after you. We once would like to apologise once again for letting you down on this occasion but reserve hope that we can repair any faith you may have had in our restaurant sometime in the future. Regards C&S

Went here on 1st Sept, my husband had t-bone I had chicken supreme which was listed as chicken breast (which must've came from a sparrow it was tiny) with potato scone (this was a burnt potato stack) & veg, the potato scone was really dark brown I turned it over & the bottom was black! My husband said his steak was nothing special & paid extra for carrots (oh they had butter on them which could cause them to be expensive) the waiter floated about my husband because he had the steak & didn't look my way until he clèared the plates he said did you enjoy the steak I answered only because he was never going to ask me! I said the potatoes are burnt he said I'll tell the chef I told him the chef obviously knew as the bottom was worse & was turned down on the plate. Over priced nothing special & keep an eye out for a chippy on the way home. Disappointed. Will not be back! 😳

Failed to get anywhere near high expectations

When looking for a nice restaurant for a rare child free night our we booked Cocktails & Steaks on the strength of positive reviews from friends. Unfortunately the food didn't come anywhere near to the high expectations we had based upon others experiences. The restaurant is stylish and well decorated with a nice ambience and is a small venue which was running at full capacity. Sitting next to the door it seemed they were possibly overbooked as tables weren't ready for arriving guests and one unhappy couple were turned away over a booking error. It has a tightish cocktail menu rather than the multitude of selections you see in some places and a limited selection of whiskies and only one beer on draft, San Miguel. We were ordering from the A La Carte menu. My wife and I both ordered starters which were good, vegetable tempura and scallops respectively. The problems began with the steak main courses which for a steakhouse is unforgivable. My wife ordered a fillet medium to well done (I know!) however the steak that arrived was at the extreme end of well done with my wife complaining it was dried out. I ordered a T-bone medium rare and it was one of the very few times I have ever had to send a meal back. The steak that arrived could only be described as well done, without a hint of pink anywhere on the steak. I ordinarily would have just eaten it but was of the opinion if I am paying £40 for a T-bone the least I can expect is it cooked to order. The staff accepted my reasoning without complaint although did inspect the steak as I showed them it was well done/brown throughout and nowhere could even be described as medium much less rare. The steak was taken away to be replaced but the staff could not be described as in any way apologetic for their error. This meant I had to wait 15 mins on my replacement being cooked while my wife ate alone. As she ploughed through her dry fillet she said she wished she had sent hers back as well. The replacement T-bone arrived which was slightly better although could still not have been described as medium rare. It was still very much still at the far end of medium into well done. It tasted fine and was a good cut of meat but was wasted by being overcooked. On their social media I see Cocktails & Steaks recently publicising the Josper grills on which they cook the steaks. I'm not sure if they are new and the chef doesn't know how to use them yet but there is little excuse for a steakhouse that cannot properly cook steaks to order. To significantly overcook 3 steaks in a row is more than an oversight and suggests a fundamental problem. All in all it was a disappointing experience, particularly considering it is not cheap, and I certainly won't be rushing back.

Overpriced poor quality steaks

Myself and my partner ordered fillet steaks medium, they looked perfectly cooked but couldn’t even get our fork through it they were so so tough. We understand this can happen with bad cuts of meat so we told the waitress and said we will just eat our chips and sauce which were lovely. Our bill came and the manager had only taken £6 off each of our meals which was seriously disappointing considering we didn’t even touch the steak (literally couldn’t eat the steak) and they obviously seen that when they took our plates away. We didn’t complain about the price as we didn’t want to make a scene as there people enjoying their meal at the next table. We ended up paying £25 each for chips and a sauce, plus our drinks a total bill of £80 and we left hungry! They could have at least taken a drink off the bill, just very disappointing and embarrassing for them. Will not be back, we have been to far better places that do not overcharge for poor quality food.

Best Steak, Best Service

After hearing from many friends how good this place was I decide to book a dinner on Saturday. I expected the food to be good from what I’d heard, what I didn’t expect was all round excellence! We received a warm welcome upon arrival by the Manager who seated us and guided us through the track and trace QR code procedure. He introduced himself by name and offered his service should we need any advice or information on the menu and cocktails. We were served by an Italian waiter who was very attentive. The setting was modern with a rustic feel, we loved it, the atmosphere was busy lots of voices drowning out the silence from the new laws of no background music. The cocktails were not very good, they were great!!! We had a Josper colada and a strawberry Daquiri to open our drink tab they were made to perfection, the girl behind the bar did a great job! We ordered the Camembert to share as a starter followed by the Chateaubriand, I can honestly say this is the best cooked steak I have ever had, kudos to the well informed staff who are full of knowledge and can tell you the perfect way to have the steak we normally have medium to well done but were promised we’d love it medium and we did, the manager Russell recommended the Malbec to pair with the steak which was an excellent choice. Unfortunately no room for dessert, but plenty for 2 espresso martinis we opted for the regular ones without the salted caramel they were fantastic. 10/10 for this experience we will be back next time with friends.

Disappointed

Just want to start off by saying the food we had was lovely and the service was very good, this was unfortunately dampened due to the fact we were Rudely spoken to by the waiter. We had a reservation from 4:15-6pm and around 5:40pm after we had paid the bill and just finishing our cocktails the waiter came over and said “just to let you know the other reservation is here” in a very snide mannor which isn’t how you expect to be spoken to after spending £120 in their restaurant. I understand they are running a business and have tables coming in and out however we were finishing our drinks and weren’t over the original time of our reservation. I just feel like this was completely uncalled for and really ruined the end of our experience within this restaurant.

Pleasant surroundings and helpful staff quite a transformation from. The newsagent that resided there for many years We had couple of Rib eye steaks the steaks were 1st class though cannot say the hand cut chips were anything special,possibly reheats as we dropped in at 5pm Pricing would is a bit on the high even if they got it all right. Seemed to be getting busy as we left. Doubt we will return they have plenty of competition to choose from, but you never know

We do find our pricing competitive considering the quality of our product and the equipment we use to take care of it's [production. Delicious Food But Shocking Customer Service

Had booked this over a week ago at the time I remembered it stated they needed the table back by 5pm. However upon arriving today the servers never mentioned they needed it back by then and it had completely left my mind. The server we had was Jaid and she was lovely! Super attentive and friendly. Couldn’t fault her service at all. The food was delicious, really enjoyed the Camembert Sharer plate and my steak was delicious, cooked perfectly! However, my mum’s steak was tiny and considering it’s £33 a cut it was quite shocking. But nonetheless she enjoyed the food. So after mains were taken, in the space of about 10 minutes from finishing another server came over and plonked the bill on the table and asked us if we needed a card machine?! No notice was given prior to this, the delivery was absurd and abrupt. We weren’t even able to get another drink as planned because ‘they needed the table back’! We spoke to the manager who up until this point was lovely but clearly had no care for why we were frustrated. It was basically like here’s your bill - get out vibes! The managers attitude was disgusting, abrupt and if that’s what she thinks is managerial etiquette then she should take up some training. Abrupt when my mum was entering her card details and to add the bill was £120 but yet there was no thanks for your custom, she took the card machine and left. To say we are disappointed would be a severe understatement. We then had to wait outside in the cold for 25 minutes until our taxi came and our table we were seated at was still empty which is funny considering it was made clear to us, they needed it back by 5pm! An absolute shambles! We will never be returning which is a shame really because Jaid was amazing and the food can’t be faulted.

Firstly, thank you for the feedback following your visit to Cocktails & Steaks. We are pleased you enjoyed your meal and the fantastic service your received which is great to hear as we pride ourselves on our fantastic food and service. As there was no mention to us at the time of check back that there were any issues with your mum's meal therefore we was unable to rectify any issues. Unfortunately, at this time we, along with the rest of industry are being hit particularly hard with supplier price increases and we cost our goods based on what we price which we purchase. Again as we pride ourselves on fantastic food we will never compromise on quality by purchasing lesser quality goods. So, again, we apologise that you felt it was expensive for the 220g fillet steak you received. With regards to the server who brought your bill to the table, she advised politely that there was 15 minutes left on your table so plenty of time to finish up your drinks but she brought your bill over then to make it a seamless transition for the next table coming in. It was myself who came to take your payment and at no point was we anything but polite, you said you weren't happy because you weren't told we needed the table back which we confirmed to you that it had been on your booking confirmation. We also advised that we had looked to see if we could have moved you to allow you more time on the table but unfortunately we couldn't accommodate as we were busy from 5pm onwards. With regards to the next table not having arrived by the time you had left - one of the guests was waiting outside because the table wasn't ready when she arrived which they continued to wait outside until her friends arrived. But again we apologise that you weren't aware of this. Again, all we can do is apologise that you felt we weren't up to the standards that you had expected as you never got to stay at your table longer after having a fantastic meal with great service. Should you wish to have longer on your next visit we would recommend booking for 8pm and you can have table until we close. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

My daughter and I visited for a Sunday lunch, I was really disappointed, I had the blade of beef which was over cooked the black pudding croquet was brick hard the only edible thing on the plate was the mash. Told the waitress when she was clearing the table and she said she would pass it on to the kitchen. To add to the disappointment we thought we were getting 2 courses for 16 pound and when we pointed this out when we got the bill we were told we ordered of the market menu which wasn’t available on a Sunday so why were we allowed to order from it ? Didn’t enjoy the experience and we certainly won’t be back it was not worth what we paid.

Booked table for 4 people for 6:45 Arrived on time and were seated upstairs. Service was so slow. We got starters and mains. The steaks were very poor quality and not worth the expensive price tags. On finishing our main, the plates were cleared and we were told they needed our table. The waitress returned with the bill which we had not asked for. We explained as the service was so slow, that we had not even seen the desert menu or had coffee and we can only eat when they bring our food. She went and spoke to the manager and came back and said we can keep the table and get a free round of drinks. No thank you, they wasted a good night. We wont be back.

Hi AdrianC, I apologise you felt you had to write this review. As was explained on the night, you had a 2 hour time slot and were here for 2 and a half hours. There was no delay on any of your courses. There was however guests booked in after you. We did our best to try to accommodate you for longer, even though we are a very busy venue and we did manage to allow for more time, including that free round of drinks as a goodwill gesture but you rudely told the waitress to "take my money and go away" There was no mention of any issues with your food in any of the other reviews you wrote, or more importantly at the time of your visit and if you had told us we could have sorted these for you there and then. All I can do now is apologise for how you felt and sincerely hope you come back and give us another try soon.

Best restaurant in Glasgow

Have passed by countless times and heard nothing but great reviews. Finally went last week and it was well worth the wait. Lived up to and exceeded the hype. One of the best steaks we’ve ever had, cooked perfectly. Staff are very knowledgable and friendly when it comes to recommending different cuts of steak depending on how well you like them cooked. Amazingly prepared cocktails and a great selection as well as other drinks. Could write an entire other review on the desserts alone. Definitely won’t wait as long before going back.

Just back from dinner in this wee hidden gem of a place. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection, especially considering the 3 of us asked for all different cooks of meat. Cocktails were delish aswell, even the pina colada that my mum ordered that wasnt on the menu. Sticky toffee pudding was sooo light and fluffy, and the strawberry cheesecake was also a hit. Our server jade (I'm sure that was her name, sorry if I'm wrong) was super friendly, professional and couldn't have done more for us. Can't wait to go back!
