Lovely place, food great, worth taking a chance as you can't book but staff are very helpful and you can have a drink while you wait

We had arranged to meet friends here for dinner, but no bookings are taken by the restaurant so we just turned up. We were told by the staff that we would have a 45 minute wait for a table when we arrived. This didnt bother us, as we were out for an evening to catch up anyway, but I can... More

We went for a meal last weekend and the food was tasty but a bit slow with our order. A busy place but well worth the wait. Staff could smile a bit more but I got the sense that it was a busy evening and they were a bit run off their feet Would definitely eat here again and would... More

Both the chorizo starter and T-bones steaks were chargrilled beyond pleasant. The steak was as ordered in the middle, but it should not be necessary to carve the surface off to avoid burnt bits. Our waiter was inexperienced and lacked knowledge of the menu and allergens, “Bread has gluten in it, doesn’t it?” He returned to ask about our steaks... More

Having visited the place for years I was disappointed. Portion size has shrunk significantly. I had the fish and chips and there was more batter than fish. The chicken which we liked was been taken off the menu. The new staff were not friendly. Past its prime

If you like excellent steak then this is the place for you. The restaurant is cosy and comfortable, the design is very traditional and creative. Service and food are of a brilliant standard. Highly recommended

Had a terrific meal at the Chop & Ale House. Great steak but my wife had to send her's back. No problem in replacing it. Felt slightly overpriced for the size of the place

Slightly quirky place this and feels like it's stuck in the past in some ways, however the food is top notch and the staff are always friendly.

This place is just marvellous! The steaks were to die for, the decor and energy of the place very relaxed and very friendly. The waiters were just amazing... the wine was excellent. I recommend the House Pinotage... a fine wine at a not so fine price! We ate like kings and the bill was low... If you are in the... More

Having previously made the mistake of turning up at peak business hours on a Sunday and being told it was a 2.5 hour wait (you can't book tables in advance) we visited the Chop & Ale House at around 4.30 in the afternoon, we managed to get a table straight away. My advice would be to turn up early to... More
