We were extremely hungry after driving from Bunratty via the Mohre Cliffs and braving Friday Galway traffic. A reputable local lady recommended Martine's so, despite the place being almost vacant, we sat down. They were still serving off the luncheon menu and we each opted for one of the fishes of the day- grilled hake. It took ages to arrive,... More

This is the third time that I have in this delightful restaurant and it keeps getting better Last night we were looked after by a very personable Spanish gentleman and a lovely young lady By the name of Niamh. We bought online and everything was ready when we arrived We all chose the menu of the day. I started with... More

When I say "ordinary" food I don't mean this as an insult. Many restaurants do ordinary food badly. Martine's does ordinary food exceptionally well. Try the steaks - superb -, try the fish stew brilliant, try the tempura Hake divine, try the mussels absolutely wonderful. Add in a great atmosphere and attentive staff and you have the perfect recipe for... More

We found this restaurant to be pretty average. For lunch, I had the Claddagh Fish Stew and my wife had the traditional fish and chips. Both dishes were ok, but there was nothing memorable about them. The prices are reasonable and the service was good.

This was a return visit to Martines and we decided to give it another go, largely due to its location, having visited here about a year previously. Sadly we were disappointed again. Service was slow and food was very expensive for what we got. If you're going to charge €30 for steak and frozen chips it has to be better.... More

We dined at Martine's last weekend. We had been there over a year ago and once again the food did not let us down, in fact it was even better. We made a reservation which was essential as the restaurant was fully packed all night and while we were waiting to be seated lots of people dropped in looking for... More

Description
As a family we have lived and worked on Quay street since 1902 and have a long history of looking after customers with Martine having worked in Margaret Mc Donagh fish shop across the road (McDonagh's Seafood Bar) at a very young age. This tradition was passed on to my brother and I, as we too worked with our mother in her restaurant preparing and serving food. Our family tradition and Galway's Great trading ties with other countries have seeped into the bones of our restaurant and greatly influence everything we do. We believe in local Irish produce prepared simply using traditional and modern techniques from home and around the world.
