Fish and chips were good and a great value. The vinegar must have been diluted or something because we had to keep adding more to get the flavor of it, at which point everything was quite wet. Fish was fresh and tasty. Just not as amazing as I had hoped based on all the great reviews.

Honest service and food. No frills and nice so. The fish is fresh and probably mostly actually caught locally. Go there for seafood.

I have been to Galway many, many times and always go to McDonagh's for fish & chips. They never disappoint. There is a counter to order at or you can eat in the small restaurant to the right of the entrance. Note, that if you want to eat in the restaurant at dinner time there is almost always a line.... We called in here early evening,it was nice and quiet then.It is at the bottom of quay st only steps from jury's where we were staying. All reports we heard about this place were all good and we thought we'd give it a try.On one side is a cafe kind place with big communal kind bench tables, and the other a restaurant... The old adage 'If it aint broke don't fix it' is certainly the best attribute for McDonagh's. I've eaten fish 'n' chips at establishment for years and the one constant is that it has remained the same. Same friendly staff, same seating and décor, and above all the freshest fish available in Galway.

We stayed in Galway August 2016 and every time we passed by McDonagh's it was packed. That always seems like a good sign to us when we travel. The food was so delicious and the service was friendly and fast. If you have one meal in Galway, I recommend highly that you try to stop in and have the Fish... More

Description
Mc Donagh's have been tantalising the taste buds of both Visitor
and Local for four generations.
The Family knowledge of Fish and dedication to their customers
has earned them the reputation of being one of Ireland's
best Seafood's Houses.

Mc Donagh's is divided into two sections:

In the Seafood Restaurant you will find a great variety of fish dishes on our menu.
From native Clarenbridge Oysters, Salmon, Crab, Scallops,Prawns, Hake, Lemon Sole, Plaice, Haddock, Wild Mussels and Ray.
Smoked Salmon from Connemara and whatever else the Fisherman
can get his hands on.
A new addition to our menu is Irish Rib Eye Steak from Mc Geough's
Butchers Oughterard Co. Galway.

In our Fish & Chips Bar the fish is cooked to order, and you are
guaranteed the freshest of Chips, as our potatoes are peeled and
cut on the premises.
Our Fish & Chips can be eaten on the premises or taken away,
we also have outside seating during the summer months.
