First impressions are that it is a little dark and tired, but on closer inspection it is a charming hotel with touches of modernity (in the bathroom). We stayed in the adjacent building to the main hotel with a winding staircase up to the rooms (careful on the stairs, it's easy to trip or miss your footing - I did... More

This review covers the restaurant side of the hotel; a separate entry concerns the hotel itself. As you enter the hotel you notice that the restaurant signage has been covered over and essentially the restaurant now caters for the hotel residents. This may make you wonder about the restaurant, don't be put off. The menu offers you three choices of... More

Simple but lovely hotel, very friendly staff. Nice breakfast too. A perfect stopover between London and Bordeaux.

Had 2 evening meals during our stay in Azay. Varied menu. Well cooked and presented with attentive service.

My husband is white. Before they saw my sister and me everything was fine. When they realized we were together, the hostess said that she could only serve us if we were staying in the hotel.

This is a really good hotel, in a great setting. The building is pretty and the rooms are good. Breakfast is ok, but the dinner was great. It is a limited menu but what they have is great. All in all a very good hotel.

We ate here and were absolutely wowed by everything we had. I had the gazpacho which was pure and tasty and amazing, followed by the duck which was THE best duck I have ever had - it melted off the bone and was with a beautiful eggplant sauce and flavourful jus. The other half had the entree salad which was... More

Truth be told, we were not considering eating at Le Grand Monarque for dinner on the night we where there. This was the third stop on our Loire Valley cycling vacation and we were staying at the hotel. Usually, we try to not eat where we are staying, especially when we travel, as we think we can have a broader... More

Delightful couple as owner operators. Very helpful and pleasant. Excellent breakfast, private parking close br hotel at a reasonable rate. Able to walk to restaurants and tourist attractions. Many others only a short drive away. I think this is the best choice in this town.

Rooms are well decorated and very stylish. People working there are all kind and very efficient. I strongly recommend this place if you want to visit the area, architecture and vine yards.
