Wonderful food. Close to the Cathedral and the medieval town on the east side. Lovely patio. Pascal is a delightful proprietor.

Good local food at nice location, moderate prices. Place needs a little vamp up, and then it would be great.

My wife and I had an early dinner at L'escalier during our last days in Chartres. I had froi gras, steak, and my favorite pear tart. My wife had prongs, stuffed chicken and custard. We shared a nice bottle of wine. My steak was good, but after tasting my wife's chicken, I would choose the chicken in the future. The... More

Very good food, moderate price, pleasant outside dining. In a quiet area, downhill from the tourist area - good exercise going back to the cathedral!

We had lunch in this quaint little place. Half a dozen tables in the little "place" but a very friendly, helpful host. A good pichet of white wine with an omelette et frites. And reasonable prices. It is the sort of unassuming little place that you might go to often .

Lovely location. Food was good and just what we wanted and expected - good French fayre and reasonable prices. If you don't want to sit on the main thoroughfare this is ideal and you won't be paying centre of the city prices. We'd go again.

As it. Was summers evening we dined outside in sight of the cathedral. An excellent meal served with by the patron who enjoys his craft and is keen for us to share his joy.

Very nice location in Chartres with a terrace on the square facing the restaurant. Apart from that, L'Escalier does not deserve any specific mention. We were not looking for anything in particular, nothing fancy nor romantic and we decided to have lunch there as we got attracted by the terrace. Food (a Cesar salad and fish of the day) was... As the other reviewers noted, it is good quality food in an excellent location on a plaza on a hillside street, just off the beaten path. Very charming, and friendly waiter/host. My wife's entrecôte was very tough and difficult to chew. Roasted potatoes had diced garlic and parsley without that good oven roasted taste. My sea trout was good, but... More

Like some of your other reviewers we were in Chartres on a Monday with little choice. But we loved this small, local restaurant. We passed by, exploring the old streets of Chartres, earlier in the afternoon and were trying to decide whether to self cater that night or eat out. The owner, Pascal, was outside and we asked if, it... More
