Had lunch here and dissapointed with the food. Ordered Bento box but got sardines with a bowl of rice, also the beef dish didn't remotely taste Japanese, more like a French beef dish. Tea was good even though the teapot looked like it needed a good scrub. You can do better than this place for lunch . The tables are... More

This little enclave is a crowded warren of restaurants (and flower sellers and fishmongers). Confusion reigns when it’s crowded. Chez Taeko has delicious and good-value bento boxes—pick a protein and get all the accompaniments. The three of us had fried chicken, pork, and mackerel; our fourth friend had a rice bowl with salmon. My chicken was indeed fried, but different... More

The breaded sardines' bento was quite nice but I think other places in Paris can offer better value ones. The maki were a bit bland and the service can largely be improved (they should pay equal attention to any customer)

I'm not sure why this place gets good reviews. I've lived in Paris for ten years and there are many superb Japanese restaurants: why is this one supposedly worth a detour? The service is very slow, the food is very overpriced for the quality and the grubby ambience (the whole market could do with a deep clean, and the stall's... More

Chez Taeko was once of the best Japanese restaurants this Nippon cuisine lover knew. I discovered the place in 2007 and went there at least twice a week. I ordered everything they had in the menu—sardines, tonkatsu, sushi, donburi... Over the years, I have seen how this lovely stand in the Marché des Enfants Rouge has raised its prices and... More

I've travelled the world and Taeko serves 2 of the best dishes I've ever had. The first is the grilled sardines, which are just wonderfully smokey, salty, and with the perfect amount of sweetness. The second is their sashimi, which is served more like a chirashi. What you get is an appropriately sized bowl of the most delightful sushi rice... More

Very casual dining around picnic benches.Lines, little elbow room, some communication problems but still great Japanese food at reasonable prices.Bento boxes, chicken, mackerel ...are musts."The" Japanese food area around rue St Anne offers many more choices,of course, but this lunch spot in the market is a jewel.

please don't visit this restaurant - the food is at most, average japanese fare and the staff there are racist (they don't like fellow asians) and very very rude to us but very nice to other French customers.

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendour. This neighbourhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
