We asked at a cafe for a restaurant recommendation that was a local "typical French" restaurant. The waiter recommended this place and we were not disappointed. All of the food was excellent. The skate (fish) dish was fantastic as were the veal kidneys and lamb with white beans. If you want high quality French country food, this is a fantastic... More

A misunderstanding about the booking time resulted in a frosty reception from the management. They wouldn't let it go & lectured us about how much money our supposed lateness had caused them. There was no suggestion that the misunderstanding was anyone's fault other than ours. Once we sat down to eat the meat was very fatty & the bill worked... More

This was our second time to this to Chez Denise. We ordered from the daily blackboard menu; old-fashioned, country fare like offal, game, etc. We had the rabbit, and veal kidneys, both in a mustard sauce, but each a different kind. Waiter was funny and friendly; sat the bottle of wine on the table, and told us to drink as... More

In a wonderfully funky and fun area of Paris....overflowing with cafes, restaurants, great shops and wonderful character....Chez Denise is a terrific restaurant. Of the old style in ambience, relaxed and friendly, overflowing with years of collected pieces, mirrors and photographs, aged wood and .... the local characters who frequent it. Besides all those good things....the food is excellent. In the... More

I searched for "Late night dinners" and Chez Denise came up with favorable reviews. Paris by Mouth also recommended Chez Denise. I made the reservation for four and very happy we came here. On a Friday night, we showed up after the Opera and sat down a little before 11:00 pm. Even with a reservation, we still had about a... More

A VERY French atmospheric historic restaurant superbly run by an amazing woman of a very certain age! Do you like your food in generous quantity? You like the best of French "home cooking?" (It rates as good as that). Do you like rather "butch" cuts, offle, cheek, liver, kidneys? I doubt that anyone prepares and cooks them better than Denise's... More

La Tour de Montlhery or aka Chez Denise is one of the few "real" parisian bistrots. The food is traditional and very good, you eat at tables mixed with other people and the service is fast and "French"! The plus is the unique atmosphere. You MUST make a reservation: dinner is served from 7.30pm to....5am!!

Staying in Les Halles

Neighbourhood Profile
Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.
