La Belle Hortense combines a bar, bookshop and restaurant, which I find appealing, but the food is the equivalent of a second rate novel. I ate the bœuf bourguignon and, while the beef was tender, the sauce was sharp, suggesting that it had not been slow cooked. The flavour was like that of a commercial sauce. My partner ordered lamb,... More

This is a really cool bar. The staff and locals are super nice and very tolerant of my rubbish French. Nice food. I met a very rough toxic Irish woman who was truly horrible. She was probably drunk. Unfortunate but not their fault. Sad for her husband really...

This bar is such a cool place to have a pre dinner wine or beer or post dinner cognac. It's cosy and kooky with a great vibe in a lively area of Paris. The library in the bar and art out back add to the atmosphere and the manager makes the bar what it is...an interesting experience all round. Well... More

PERFECT place to end an evening in the Marais. The crowd is international and intellectual. The space is intimate but quite lively and the energy often spills onto the street in from where people just take their glasses and their cigarettes and chat the night away. Good place to meet local architects, writers, curators, visiting poets, vagabond alcoholics with style... More

Escaped the Friday night madness in La Belle Hortense. We enjoyed fabulous Poulily Fuissé as well as other Maçonais white, listened to David Bowie's Black Star and thumbed through books ......... and relax!

Visiting this little bookshop bar was one of the highlights of my visit to Paris. Really lively atmosphere and a good range of wines on offer.

It is bar with book store. We entered when place was crowded with local people but they were in so good mood that we have great time; like we know them for long time. Bartender was very charming and atmosphere was great. Prices are not to high.

Book Shop and wine bar in one. What can go wrong? Nothing, as it turns out. Even though it's tiny, there is room for everyone. And the selection of organic wines is good. Cheers!

The room at the back is small and cost but it's more fun go early and get a seat at the bar. Nice Crozes Hermitages, and good bread and ham and cheese served to nibble alongside. Gets VERY busy later in the evening.

This was our favourite wine bar in Paris... We have been coming here for many years & have recommended it to many friends and family. We have only spent time in the quaint library bar out front...as the back space is lacking character. A great spot anytime of year, pre or post dinner... and lazy Sunday afternoons! On our most... Neighbourhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendour. This neighbourhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
