I'd really been looking forward to trying this place! The decor looks great from the outside, very welcoming. We came here for dinner one night. Unfortunately the people who run it have really thought about some things about running a restaurant, but not others. The...place looks great, as I said. But the service was really not that great. First, we had an awkward experience in front of friends where we were charged for something we had pre-paid for at the beginning of the evening (a sparkling wine; they don't have any champagne on the wine list) so as to make sure our friend didn't pay for it (we wanted to celebrate a personal achievement). The exact opposite of what we wanted to happen happened at the end of the night when the owner came and told us all we had double paid (at least he told us). Definitely don't come here if trying to impress business clients! Second, we waited for at least 45 minutes, maybe an hour, in between entree and main. The food was fine, definitely nothing to write home about and definitely nothing to wait an hour for! We were at the restaurant from something like 8.30pm to midnight and only had two courses, unfortunately. Third, while we were definitely not going to eat dessert after sitting around waiting for forever, we were never asked if we wanted dessert. I just don't understand how people can expect to run a restaurant and not ask their patrons if they want dessert? I mentioned this to the waiter, who first of all said that "the kitchen had closed quite early" (this was not true; the chef was there until late cooking our main courses and was then seen out on the pavement hanging out), and then just looked sheepish when he realised he hadn't asked us if we wanted dessert. Fourth, the wine all seems to be stored standing up around the restaurant, which in the warm Paris summer cannot be great for the wine. Also, the staff didn't know very much about the wine; when we asked for a light red option they struggled to come up with something. I really wanted to like this restaurant, but I think it will struggle when there is a lot of good competition in the area when it comes to modern French, good value restaurants (e.g. various places in rue Montcalm and rue Ramey nearby). It's shocking that this place makes it into Le Fooding but not some of the competitors.More
