No real style, just an accumulation of objects and some souvenirs , looks more as cantine place. Anyway, waiters are smiling and provide warm welcome. Food is Tunisian but not sophisticate, as at home, no efforts of presentation. Test is basic, not really what we have in Tunisia. Too much oil in plates. Mechouia doesn't have appropriate spices nor capers,... More

What a lovely surprise, to come upon this lovely spot nestled in the Latin Quarter. Vibrant welcoming decor & hospitality. Fabulous Tunisian cous cous specialties, impeccable mint tea, service that makes you want to embrace your host for inviting you into their home. And date almond walnut delicacies to send you happily into the night... don't miss!

Very enjoyable lunch. Had table d'hote- 13€ per head: tasty Tunisian soup and meatball couscous. Very friendly and attentive staff. Drinks expensive but typical for Paris. Highly recommended

Well located place with an extremely delicious menu to choose from. I opted for their combo menu which I must say is a generously portioned meal which can be shared by 2 people. The price range is reasonable as we paid around 50 euros for 2 ppl. They have a lovely spicy sauce that makes the chorba and other appetizers... More

What a strange evening! Staff very pleasant but felt a bit like the kids had been left in charge as the parents were away. The food was served quickly - three courses within an hour, and it was okay but seemed to be a bit lacking in love. We were the only customers there but felt a bit like an... More

We have had the pleasure of eating at Chez Jaafar many times, every time we visit France. We have seen it grow in size, but never compromise the quality of food or service. The prices are fair, the servings generous, I highly recommend it! My favorite is the roasted lamb, but you really can't go wrong.

We had the soup and the brick with egg and meat, then the lamb with prunes, almonds and sesame seeds and the couscous with meatballs. The soup and couscous were great, but the brick and lamb were incredible. The staff were attentive and accommodating, even stopping to give a tutorial on how to properly eat couscous (at my request).

We love good couscous but is nearly impossible to find in Virginia where we live. We found Chez Jafaar on our first trip to Paris by chance as it was close the Cluny Museum. We now make it a tradition to return on each trip. This place is truly authentic and run by a family who knows how to make... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
