We tried the blini, the borek, the strudel. Basically a bit of the things this bakery is 'famous' for. There is no doubt that what is being prepared here is of high quality. However, I didn't take a liking to either the savoury or sweet offerings. Despite filled with wonderful smells and helpful staff, the tastes were quite bland and... More

In the famous rue des rosiers in Le Marais, Sacha Finkelsztajn (the yellow shop) is the perfect place to have yiddish bakery and food. The place is often over-crowded and the available place to eat inside the shop are few so take-away will be often the best option. Highly recommendable for yiddish bakery lovers

Stopped here to pick up a quick breakfast on our way to the metro. I got the cheese borek and a poppy seed cake to save for later. Both were absolutely delicious! The staff was very nice and friendly even though we didn't speak much French. I wish we had had time to stop for lunch because the stuff in... More

The BEST potato pancakes on the planet--worth the wait. Even if you don't think you'll like yiddish food, the Boreks, latkes, and cheesecake are to die for. They are extremely inexpensive, and no trip to Paris, let alone the Marais, would be truly complete without this spectacular feast. A little yellow building (little being the operant term) opposite a great... More

The crowds may scare you, but they come and go, don't be scared and jump right in. We didn't know Yiddish food but we tried just because of the great looking offer. The classic bagel sandwich was beyond delicious and the streusel at the end was heavenly. Of course, it's a "touch and go" place and the dishes are served... More

Unique little place which specializes in Jewish / East European specialties. Great onion pletzel bread and apple strudel with almonds. Also a number of meat dishes and sandwiches. Mostly take-away but you can also eat at one of the little tables. Probably the most authentic remaining eatery in Paris historic Jewish neighborhood, highly recommended.

We bought some bread and cakes, which were really nice. A a real treat. I would recommend to go there and buy at least some cakes, the one with poppy seeds is excellent.

Worst service in Paris, let them take the title, it was totally theirs for the taking as there were no other contenders that even came close to the rude way customers were dispatched, was this the charm of the place? No just a couple of rude servers. The food is expensive and this is not because it is Kosher, it... More

We had the chopped liver sandwich in the onion bread and some kniches. The food was wonderful. The coffee was good too. A great place for tasty quick bite.

I've been to this bakery a couple of times (I got a small loaf of brioche one time and a berry strudel cake the next) and the pastries are yummy- I hope to try more! However, it can get extremely crowded on the weekends (like a line out the door) and the staff are less than friendly, so that dampened... More

Staying in Le Marais

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendour. This neighbourhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
