A small French bistro off the beaten path by just a few steps, excellent food and amazing service! It gets a WOW, how I wish we had food, service this good in the Hamptons, without the Hamptons prices!

We had escargots and goat cheese as a starter and cod and sea bass as a main course. This is typical French cuisine. Pure ingredients, no fuss, just good food. The panna cotta with sea salt caramel is delicious. Prices are reasonable and correct. The history of the house (to be found in the back of the menu) adds some... More

A friend of mine, who studied in Paris, told me some years ago that La Petite Chaise has the best onion soup all over France. And IT HAS. Just ask the owner to explain to you how much time you need in order to make th perfect soup. I've been there some times and I was never disappointed. Even I've... More

We read about this restaurant on a David Lebovitz blog before coming to Paris and wanted to try it out. Per his recommendation we stopped by the restaurant to make a reservation for a meal while we were out sightseeing. We loved everything about the restaurant. The staff were attentive, the restaurant itself was bright and cheerful and the food... More

I happened upon this as I strolled the quartier! It is a lovely, quaint little restaurant where the father of the owner even dines twice daily! It is full of the locals..a good testament! It is open every day, even bank holidays, which is rare! The staff is friendly and accommodating and the food is substantial and even hearty in some... More

This place is kind of a wonder. It's nestled in between chic boutiques (the 6th is generally a stylish arrondissement). I walked by it and something about it told me to eat there that evening. So glad that I did. It was a memorable meal with a great menu variety. I had the snails and duck with a white chocolate... More

Our concierge at the Duc de Saint Simon Hotel recommended this cute neighborhood bistro. It was good French food, nothing fancy, with a competent staff. Nice dinner in Saint Germain-de-pres.

I'm not sure why, but our experience at La Petite Chaise did not match what others have written about. There wasn't one table speaking French in the main floor room where we were seated! Everyone was speaking English. This was unexpected in Paris and made us wonder whether hotels etc were 'incented' to recommend this restaurant. Further, it seemed to... More

Staying in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

Neighbourhood Profile
Saint-Germain-des-Pres
In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, life is effortlessly chic and all things are beautiful. The main boulevard is dotted with famed terraced cafés, haut-couture shops, ivy-covered railings and fine-dining restaurants. Antique dealers and art galleries surround the fine art school and small museums hide in unassuming squares. The neighbourhood’s namesake church is the oldest in Paris and is the backdrop for talented musicians every weekend. The Luxembourg Gardens house the national senate, splendid lawns and flourishing flower beds. Famous faces and bourgeois Parisians frequent Saint Germain accompanied by the students of Rue Saint Guillaume and Rue des Saints-Pères. This is a neighbourhood where afternoon people-watching from a café or playing cards in a brasserie are a key part of the daily fabric.
