Was so looking forward to returning here, a disappointment on every level. Food, service all lacking. Won’t be returning.

Once again Madame and I were fortunate enough to dine at Balzar, as we have a number of other times, and once again it was a great experience. We both enjoyed the sole meunière, expertly boned at tableside (we both can do that for ourselves,...More

My wife and I have been going to BB every time we are in Paris for 30 years. I am sad to say that it is time to move on. We still love the setting -- if you are familiar with Balthazar in NYC, it...More

My tour of Parisian brasseries continued with Brasserie Balzar in the University quartier. I’d long wanted to eat here and inveigled my friends in Paris to see the Rugby to accompany me. It was disappointing to put it mildly. Our welcome was not even vaguely...More

I do not bother with a long review but here a some thoughts. The oeufs mayonnaise was good, the veal chop was overcooked but had ok pasta and vegetables but the profiteroles with ice cream and choco sauce was not craftmanship. The profiteroles was soggy,...More

Had a lovely family lunch at the Balzac. Other than the needless (but expected) harping on my husband’s choice of Coke over wine (the horror!), the service was excellent. Food was beautiful, delicious, and well-prepared. Sole meunière for my daughter and me, filleted tableside, was...More

We are greeted warmly by the maitre d', who sports a magnificent mustache. The room is light, spacious and comfortably-sized -- not one of those enormous brasseries that France is known for. Service was everything you could want - attentive, quick and pleasant. Food was...More

Balzar is near the Sorbonne and the Cluny museum where I used to live in Paris, and I never fail to make the pilgrimage when I’m back in town, and recommend it to all my friends who visit Paris and ask for recommendations. You’ll always...More

Very good brasserie in Saint Germain. Menu has a good choice even if it does not change so much in the time. Quality is good.

We expected high prices and the snooty waiter at the door but were pleasantly surprised the table waiter could speak English. This makes it even more appalling that he didn’t warn my husband not to order andouillette. This is not, as the uninitiated would suppose,...More

Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life,
architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The
small streets are filled with classical buildings,
student bars and lively eateries while the squares are
dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined
by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin
once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which
celebrates the great men and women of France. During

I only ate dinner, but since it operates as a typical bistrot, I would expect to find omeletes, pastries, coffee, juices, etc.

There is no doubt that the current Flo run restaurant is a pitiful shadow of what it once was, not just in terms of the menu choice, but in the taste of the food and servings. Portions are much smaller, almost calibered. The... More
