Our dinner last night at L' Ami was a Parisian nightmare. Where does one begin? Let's start with price (and, to be clear, we travel the world spending too much money on food.) Yes, the asparagus, which we got to see because the table next to us ordered some, was about $12 US a spear, even more if you left... More

This restaurant used to be charming and irresistible, albeit expensive, with the waiters theatrically throwing your coats up on to the over head shelves. Food extremely good, but portions enormous. Today was disappointing. It wasn't busy but the army of waiters resolutely ignored a vacated table for 20 minutes. No one bothered to refill wine glasses, and it wasn't easy... More

Touted as classic roast chicken heaven, well all the chickens must be there because our VERY expensive old hen was left behind and truly bad along with pile of shoe string fries, not even pomme frites!. Old interior was quaint, service fine but the chicken? uh no.

Our fourth time at this amazingly wonderful place. I know it's extremely expensive but I just try to ignore that as it's so good and so much fun. But today I was shocked when I was told that I couldn't take the leftovers home as it was "too late" and they had discarded them. We couldn't decide between the amazing... More

The largest portions of food anyone can encounter in France, be it their excellent roast chicken , fine steaks or heaps of frites. Usually full of Americans, it's tiny and crowded but with a fun spirit. Primitive restroom downstairs to be avoided. I've enjoyed meals here though it's not so much a French dining experience. Reservations a must.

L'Ami Louis is an institution in Paris. Locates in Le Marais, it is a small dining room in an old, medieval building. Not much to look at from the outside, inside it is cozy, warm, crowded and noisy. Furnishing is old-fashioned and not terribly comfortable, but the place has style. The waiters have a special skill in throwing your overcoat... More

Unfortunately, we cannot comment on the quality of the food since the restaurant refused to honor our reservation. Despite the fact that the restaurant was empty when we arrived, they told us that they could not honor the reservation (which had been confirmed by American Express just the day before) "because they could not reach us personally" (note they had... This is one of our favorite restaurants in Paris. The food is always amazing, as is the service. Our expectations about the escargots (Fantastic) are never let down.

I came here twice in the past with parents and the food was great, so I was looking forward to coming back. My husband and I made a dinner reservation about two weeks in advance to celebrate our anniversary. The policy is that you have to call to confirm the day before or morning of the reservation. We decided to... More
