Delicious with great service! After receiving a recommendation and reading the rave reviews. we decided to give this place a try. Daniel was our server and high was kind, accommodating and helpful. He gave us great recommendations and we loved the beef bourguignon and duck. Oh.. the duck! The mousse was fabulous and we rolled out of there fat and... More

Chez Rene continues to be what French dining always was: extraordinary on every level. My remark on a changing EU is relevant. Over the past ten years the influx of the peoples from throughout the EU, especially eastern Europe has changed the culture. I do not criticize the change, or the wonderfully different population. Yet, finding the real traditions of... More

This became our go-to place for dinner when we didn't have a reservation or were just too tired to cook. Fabulous white asparagus, but pricey (20 Euros). Enough for lunch if you'really not a big eater. Some of the dishes are way too much food and we found ourselves sharing. Helpful staff: one of our traveling companions lost her driver's... More

If you want to go to Paris and be surrounded by American tourists eating overpriced, poorly prepared French dishes then this is your place. I have traveled many times to Paris and stayed for months at a time. There are wonderful restaurants and bistros serving classics like confit et bouef bourguignone. Chez Rene is not one of those places. Plus... More

Nice dinner of charcuterie and boeuf bourgoinge for a decent price on a major street. Good service no complaints. 60E and you can have an excellent dinner incl good wine.

We come here everytime we are in Paris. The staff were helpful and attentive even though we speak very little French. The escargot and steak tartare were both very nice. The wine list is good. It is definitely still one of my favorites for an affordable enjoyable lunch.

We liked the welcoming and attentive service, although seemed sometimes exaggerating and making a fun of us. We follow the proposal for beef Bourguignon and in my opinion it did not meet my culinary expectations, no matter the value for money. Wine was far too warm to enjoy. The longer we been there, the less attentive became the service.

Away from the somewhat chaos and cheapness of the Latin Quarter this is an authentic French Bistro filled with locals. If you are looking for traditional bistro food-- coq u vin, beef bourgeon, escargot this is the place to go. Not much tolerance for tourists so be prepared with your google translate if your French is not sufficient.

After two weeks in France, this was the best meal, on our last day. Traditional, well executed, really 'typique'. Bisque to start, perfect roast beef for main, and mille feuille for dessert. Each perfect. Very reasoably priced, and a new favourite.

The food at Chez Renee is traditional French bistro food, we had the Confit de Canard (good, but not great) and the Boeuf Bourginon (good). The outdoors seating during the warm summer evening was also very nice, though the place was very full with mostly tourists. The prices were on the high side, but this is an expensive area. So... Staying in Odeon / Saint-Michel

Neighbourhood Profile
Odeon / Saint-Michel
As the bustling center of entertainment for the residents of the Rive Gauche, the activity at Odéon never stops. Boulevards are lined with traditional cafes, restaurants, and boutique cinemas. The streets surrounding the fountain at Saint-Michel provide eateries from around the world. Lively bars are just next door and the prototypical terraced French brasserie is on every corner. The setting for this area is second to none; the Haussmann-style boulevards are contrasted by monumental architecture and overshadowed by the iconic Notre Dame, all within a moment’s walk from the Seine. This neighbourhood's world-famous bookshops, cafés, and streets will not fail to impress you.
