"Are you with Groupon?" she asked as I told her we'd made a reservation over the Internet. I looked at her blankly. Had we come on the Groupon night? Had the menu been curtailed that night because some guests would be flashing their freshly printed...coupons? It was Monday, 7:30pm, the restaurant was deserted, and I wondered at my choice for the evening. The restaurant itself was beautifully and tastefully furnished: any time my wife starts making plans for redoing our dining room based on what she sees, I'm in trouble and you know it's good. After this inauspicious start, the items on the menu promised well. Unfortunately the bouillabaisse needed 48 hours warning, so I couldn't have that, so I went for the beef carpaccio to start (very tasty, but with half an acre of rocquette on top that took some getting through) and the veal chop to follow (it was cooked to perfection, rosé). My wife went for -- and I forget the actual name on the menu, tourteau sur tartare d'avocat? -- crab meat on guacamole to start (and it was delicious), and then grilled sole, which was plentiful if disappointing and mostly tasteless (the vegetable asparagus mix that came with it was over-cooked and soggy and didn't enliven the fish in any way). I'll note that her first selection, the cod, was no longer available. We did have rather a good white Cotes-de-Provence with the meal though -- again a second option since they were out of my first choice. Our server was attentive throughout, but it didn't seem to be a very popular night (Groupon or not). Two other couples came in while we were eating, one finishing pretty quickly, and the other taking their time. Other than that, just very quiet. All in all, I suppose I was a little disappointed with the Bistrot de l'Olivier. I had expected more from their Provençal slant, and although the dishes were well-presented and mostly very tasty, it just wasn't enough to make me want to try them again. We'd also booked directly through their website, and yet they had no record of our reservation, which was just troubling.More

Its not to easy to find an authentic french restaurant in this neck of the woods, just 5 minutes off the Champs Elysees. Lots of tourist haunts or very expensive establishments with frankly indifferent food . But here we found a warm welcome from Rachael...and tasty food well prepared. If you happen to be in the area, seek it out and you won't be disappointed. Fish is the speciality, but the desserts were interesting as well, a change from the usual flan & so on.More

We had the fixed price menu. To start, we both had pumpkin soup with a goat cheese crouton, which was delicious. I then had rack of lamb and sauted potatoes and my husband had a beef daube with tagliatelli. Both were lovely. We also were...given a bowl of mash - but we didn't eat this owing to the other carbs - would have prepared a vegetable. We shared an apple tart with ice cream, which was okay. We had kir royales and then some lovely red wine to accompany this. Nice food and wine and good service (we left a tip over and above the service charge included and the waiter ran after us because he thought we left too much).More

I had dinner with my wife on a slow night in the middle of the summer and I found this restaurant can hold its own against any of the other places currently in vogue. Their menu is pretty well balanced, with a series of good...choices both for seafood and poultry, and delicious appetizers. Their style leans towards southwestern French cuisine but the menu does not overdo the "terroir" theme and stays pretty cosmopolitan. Their prix fixe menu is reasonably priced and the wine list, although pricey, has very good choices in the lower price tier. Service was very attentive. Their desserts are not particularly original in terms of choice, so we passed.More
