Booked this restaurant because of reviews on TA and regretted it. It's in a very unattractive area so I though the food must be excellent. Service ok though not especially friendly. The prices were very high--27 euros for a main course?--Mine was a guinea fowl breast sitting on some cabbage--my wife's was equally ordinary. Desserts were ok though again not... More

Very good food. Tasty and cheap. Loved how the food was presented! As all french bistros, the dessert area needs improvement. Great service. Just one advice: ask for tapped water!

Visited with 3 girlfriends. Lovely intimate restaurant. Great fixed price dinner menu with lots of choice. Good quality was superb. Goats cheese and beetroot starter was delightful. Pork loin with mashed potatoes and then a shame praline bomb. Wine was great value. Staff were attentive but not fussy.

Good food, traditional with a twist. Super nice and friendly service, even though the restaurant was full with everybody rushing through lunch during a working day. I would surely go back!

The Fifth (Quartier Latin) has been my favourite district in Paris for 50 years, owing to its concentration of world-class universities. Le Buisson Ardent (the Burning Bush) was a pleasing discovery a few days ago. Here you will get a very warm welcome, delightful service, clear menu, and a passion for fresh food prepared on the premises. For dinner we... More

I wrote a review for Le Buisson Ardent the last time I was in Paris, about five years ago. But I've just had lunch there and I feel the need to write about it once more. The two amuse bouches - delightful. The meals themselves - each of them excellent. They have perfected polenta. The pork belly with polenta is... More

This place is very unassuming but has a French and old world charm that is all its own. The food was amazing and we got a bottle of wine that may have been the best bottle we had our entire trip. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is intimate. The service is outstanding, helpful and accommodating.

Our last treat was dinner at Le Buisson Ardent (aka The Burning Bush), a hugely popular and extremely busy bistrot gastronomique at 25 Rue Jussieu on the Left Bank and only 500 metres from Hotel Monge. You would have to book in advance for a table here, even on a Friday night in February. The 1930 sitting was full and... More

After a recommendation from our host and excellent reviews, we chose this for dinner our first night in Paris.Mediocre at best. The starter, chevre smoked in hay, was boring. The fish, daurade, was not fresh and was quite tasteless. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good but the food fell far short.

My wife and I have visited this restaurant at least 4 years in a row. The first times quality was superior compared to price but the last two times quality has been rapidly declining, and the restaurant is not at all up to previous standards. To bad, as the atmosphere is good and service excellent. This time was our last... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
