You could easily walk past this Restuarant in a less than celubrious canal backstreet a stones throw from the station - but don't. Down one flight of stairs the Restuarant is elegant and simple, with food prepared at one end on an open fire and chefs table. Really only does fish but what a welcome break from the cassoulet everywhere... More

We booked Chez Gil for a friends birthday trip to Carcassonne based on TA reviews and boy was it good! We all went for the 22 euro 2 course option and found it difficult to choose between glorious options!the food came gloriously presented, good quality and generous quantities and all told with cocktails and wine worked out at 30 euros... Only found superb fish restaurant by recommendation from our accommodation owners as we had walked passed the window a few times without realising what it was. Once we went downstairs, we found this lovely cosy and very smart establishment which served fantastic food. It has an open kitchen, so it was lovely to see the chef preparing our food and... More

Saturday night had great menu du jour, 3 courses for 20 euros. Rest of week you can dine a la carte, two courses for 22 euros. Good value.

I found Chez Gil through Tripadvisor and was not disappointed. We had a set menu and I chose the chef's recommendations. So many lovely mussels and seriously tasty small squid kebabs and excellent pud. Best of all the French were eating there.

This is a very quiet place near le railway station. I had the lunch menu which was outstanding and cheap. The usually serve fresh fish and seafood. They also have cassoulet. I have not tried it myself but from friends comments it is also good. I am planning to try it the next time I will go there. The service... More

Went there to try the fish soup - usually a marker for the restaurant as a whole. The broth was very good with a pungent rouille and a good helping of emmenthal to sprinkle on the top. The scrappy chunks of bread to dunk in it could have been a bit better presented. Main courses were a disappointment with rather... More

Fish and shellfish "a la plancha," fresh, simple and inexpensive. We love this place every time we go. A nice lunch stop in downtown Carcassonne near the train station, Retaurant Gil never seems crowded. Lunch special is only 12 Euros, a bargain, including house wine. We got starters of boulets (sea snails) and also salade des moules tiedes (warm mussels).... More

We had lunch here while visiting "La Cite". We both had the fixed menu which includes an appetizer+main or main+dessert, and both options include a 1/4 litre of house wine with your meal. We had apps and mains as our choice. For apps, we had the fish soup which is incredible, and the mussels which were perfectly cooked. Both appetizers... More
