After the closure of l’Huitrière, the star rated restaurant behind an exclusive fish shop, it was a bit difficult to find a restaurant of the same quality. It was really a coincidence that as I went with a friend to visit Lille, we made a little stroll in the rue des Chats Bossus, where l’Huitrière was. The fish shop also... More

I know we went on a Saturday but this is a big restaurant & it was full. Their speciality is fish. The dish to have, judging from the locals was the fruit de mer platter. Their menu was good but it did rely on simplicity & good ingredients. Very good fish, well cooked & presented. They know their fan base... More

My wife and I ate dinner at the Écume des Mers on a busy Monday night. It appeared that there were not enough servers to keep up with all the people dining but, to our pleasant surprise, the servers handled all the diners with great efficiency. The food itself was very good. My appetizer of warm oysters in Champaign sauce... More

Amazing shellfish and ambiance. Had lunch with my boyfriend and we went for the seafood platter. It was just amazing and tasty. Will be back for sure.

Not sure if this was the first shift of our waitress, but the service tonight was non-existent. Wine was poured for us once, never topped up. I ordered the filet de boef with pepper sauce, which was amazing once it arrived, an hour after it was supposed to. The rest of the table had the fruits de la mer platter,... More

L'Ecume des Mers is one of a few restaurants that are open on a Sunday. [See my review of Clarance Hotel]. The restaurant specialises in sea food. We had the bouillabaise which was magnificent. Huge platters of shell fish were disappearing on many tables around us. L'Ecume has a great ambiance and the staff are first class. A wonderful experience.... More

Had a very pleasant lunch here. Looked after well by the staff despite being an older foreign woman dining on her own, which is not always the case.

Very nice menu but prices way too high for the food. "Croquettes de crevettes" were average at most, fish OK, wine average too. Waiters professional, but general setup is confortable. Quick serving.

Super good and fresh seafood platter. Other main fish dishes not to be recommended. Tartare de thon did not even taste like tuna because of too much chili sauce and capers. Chablis wine was delicious.

This is in the heart of old Lille quite expensive but well worth it, the atmosphere was good and the food second to none, my husband chose haddock tartare and was very impressed and I had the sole menuiere

Description
L’Ecume des Mers in Lille lies near the Grand’ Place, just ten minutes’ walk from both train stations – and it’s open every single day of the year, even in August, so you are always assured of a warm welcome and fantastic seafood. L’Ecume des Mers (it means ‘sea foam’) is the younger sister of longtime favourite l’Huitriere. The smart marine bleu and white front leads into an elegant mezzanined dining space in cool shades of blues, greys and creams with soaring ceiling and tables arranged around a central bar. The menu, under the care of chef Christian Leroy, depends on the catch of the day, but usually includes oysters, fruits de mers and all manner of wild fish (only salmon is farmed) in dishes like skate in black butter. There are land-based dishes, too, and ten menus available for larger parties. Groups have the benefit of the upstairs Petit Salon seating up to 12, the Library seating up to 60, or the main dining room seating up to 100. A covered terrace comes into its own in the warm months. The intelligent wine list features a wine of the month available by the glass, pichet or bottle.
