Had a meal here with work, 15 People and very smooth service with all the food coming out together and all cooked excellently. We had a set menu, far easier with so many but the food is of a very high standard, never having to wait for wine, which was paired by the sommelier - absolutely no complaints and would... More

We had booked for dinner on a Tuesday during Easter Week based on reviews and authoritative sources. We started out on the brave side wanting to sit outside and watch the yacht harbour. Issue number one; the table is unstable an the waiter does notice, however after our request and 10 minutes he finds a vedge and deals with it.... More

This is a great value if you want a meal prepared by a proper chef. Beautifully prepared dishes, haute cuisine at a reasonable price. Nice to get away from the tourist trap doldrums

Loved this restaurant. We came here for lunch and got the fixed price menu with soup, main course and dessert for 27 euros. The soup was spectacular, a creamy squash a l'orange. The main course was either fish or beef and both were very good. The dessert was called a Shuss and it basically a panna cotta with cheese and... More

Nice is now a lively and talented restaurant town. When we first started coming here frequently, a good 30 years ago, there were a few bastions of fine cooking and lots of forgettable food not even fit for tourists. L'Ane Rouge was one of the reliable venues. Chefs and owners come and go. L'Ane Rouge is still a trusted venue,... More

We went to L'ane Rouge on 14 February. The restaurant was full, the food was excellent - especially the soup sprinkled generously with truffle - and the service was excellent even though the restaurant was very busy. We couldn't have wished for more. We will go again whenever we visit Nice, in fact it's a very good reason to go... More

Various menues, and la carte of course. Tried the Menue Marche. Very good indeed. Great soup, fantastic fish and good dessert. Attentive staff and very good sommelier. Will be back!

You need to trek round the harbour for this one, but it gave us the best meal we had in a week's stay in Nice (admittedly most of the bistrots were disappointing). Simple fare, but beautifully devised. Daurade bouchon was a delectable main course.

I have to gush over Restaurant L'Ane Rouge on the port in Nice. Service is indifferent and completely unconcerned about your timetable, but get over it. Order a glass of wine to start and cool your jets for the main event. The restaurant overlooks the port so there's action to entertain you, day or night (open til 10, even on... More

Weather in Villefranche was very rainy so took 100 to Nice to a restaurant recommended by Michelin. It had to be the worst experience ever. We arrived on time for our reservation and the waiter was very curt on the point of being nasty rolling his eyes and looking at his watch. At this point we felt like walking out... More

Description
Located in an old house in the port of Nice, L'Âne Rouge and its pretty little terrace are well known in Nice. The food is simple, based on fresh, local produce, yet is chic and refined at the same time. The menu is based around fish and shellfish, used to produce the imaginative dishes of Chef Michel Devillers. Try the courgette flower with sardines served with Riviera noodles; braised sea bass with fresh coconut or parfum of haddock and Chipencornet. Otherwise choose from the great fish of the day selection such as gilthead bream, red sea bream, sea bass, John Dory, all caught by Mr Gilbert the fisherman. As far as desserts go, the chocolate macoranade and the Bulgarian ice cream are irresistible.
