I specifically booked at this restaurant for the suckling pig - promised to be ready at 18:00. Unfortunately I received a thick slab of dry, grilled pork (schweinebraten), obviously leftover from Sunday lunch. The asparagus starter was good, but the service unfriendly with an indifferent attitude. Not good enough!

Spatenhaus has become one of my go-to restaurants within the inner core of Munich. Varied menu, great beer and very good service - it has always been consistent and my last visit was no exception. All the traditional German favourites so you can't go wrong.

I was recommended this place by the Hotel I stayed at and I was very pleased to have found this gem. There are several rooms and I chose the first one that had a bistro feel to it. The food was excellent and the menu choice of typical German dishes was really very good. I had Zwiebelrostbraten (beef roasted with... More

You get what you pay for, right? Well, that's certainly the case for the Spatenhaus. Prices are a tad on the pricey side - a plate of sausages, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes will set you back in the region of 16,00 Euro. As with most beer halls in Munich the Spatenhaus is affiliated to one of the big six breweries... More

This is the place to get authentic Bavarian food in a cozy, old-world atmosphere. The patrons were almost entirely Muencheners. We were delighted with the crispy roast pork with Rotkraut -- and potato dumplings to dab up the delicious dark beer sauce. My wife had the cheese spaetzle with onions grilled into it. Fabelhaft! We're coming back when we have... More

Ate upstairs in the fine dining area. Very welcoming staff and delicious food and wine. Had fish carpaccio and the venison. The waitress advised us about the wine and was always smiling and helpful.

Schnitzel abounds in many forms in Munich, but none is better than the traditional Viennerschnitzel served at Spatenhaus. Tender enough to cut with a fork, my portion was cooked to perfection with a delicate breading, with sides of potato pancake and cucumber salad. My friend enjoyed a seafood medley with grilled vegetables. We both had apple strudel with ice cream... More

We were recommended this restaurant by the hotel as a place with good local food. We ordered Wiener schnitzel and a gordon bleu. The meat tasted good, but the accompaniments were boring. Cucumber salad, cranberries and a potato cake. The price was, however high 27 and 29 euro and then came the VAT on top of the bill. The place... More

Dear Susan V, we are very sorry that you did not enjoy the experience at our restaurant. Yes, so far we only have very few hand-held terminals for credit card payments. We are picking up on that. In case you will spend more time in Germany, ALL invoices and prices displayed in menus,.... ALL include the VAT. We apologize for... More

Description
A traditional institution at Max-Joseph-Platz, in perfect harmony with the Bavarian National Theatre, Residence and Palais an der Oper. The Munich citizen goes to Spatenhaus with his family, and he invites his business partners to our restaurant, for special events. On the ground floor our restaurant leaves a down-to-earth impression, the four rooms on the top floor are more elegant. The restaurant stands for exclusive hospitality and exquisite traditional German cuisine. Old Bavarian dishes enrich the menu card on the ground floor. On the top floor the kitchen crew offers its guests a more differentiated menu, taking individual requirements into account. Exquisite fish cuisine, classic dishes of Bavarian and Austrian cuisine supplement each other, thus catering perfectly for all tastes. If the weather is dry, the terrace on the Residenzstrasse fills rapidly and is a truly wonderful location to experience typical Munich culture until late at night.
