OK, the restaurant isn't is the best part of town (safe, though), but it's worth the train ride. Very small and atmospheric, with a Berlin-Paris vibe. Good food at affordable prices. Cash only. Go for the schnitzel. Also go for the chocolate layered dessert if they have it. My only hesitation in recommending the place is that, in summer, I... More

The Joseph Roth Diele is a hidden treasure of Berlin. Small, but full of atmosphere and with wonderful food and drink. The staff speak very good English, even though they get very few non-Germans in there. The menu is not extensive, but the food is home-made and of excellent quality. I would particularly recommend the Wiener schnitzel. We will be... More

A friend living in Berlin recommended this wonderful place. I don't think we would have found it other wise. We went with a small group, had the most delicious food and drink and felt transported to another time. The atmosphere was great, music wasn't distracting (just wonderful) and the price was incredibly reasonable. Came away having a lovely experience and... More

We chose to visit this highly recommended restaurant for dinner during our stay. Without a booking the place looked tightly packed when we arrived but the waitress (happy to speak English) found a table for us near the door. Every time someone entered the cold air rushed in, and my chair was brushed. But we had a table! The restaurant... More

I have been there for a business lunch and I have had a very good experience. The food is good and fresh, including typical German dishes: Schweinebraten, Spätzle, Buletten, Schnitzel, etc. The service is kind and quick. The atmosphere is very pleasant. The prices are convenient. I really recommend this place!

What a lovely place to be! Very alive and very friendly. I felt very comfortable even that I was on my own. The staff was extremely helpful and was smiling all the time. I was a little disappointed with the taste of the food and the presentation, especially with the chocolate cake, but nothing that would forbid to go there... More

On the day of arrival we checked out Tripadvisor and this one was on the list - I think about 10 minutes walk from where we were staying (Sheraton). We walked in on the Monday and were told there was no place and no available tables till Thursday - so we booked Thursday. The place is quite cosy and has... More

Wonderful, tender schnitzel, the best I have had in years... a laid back but vibrant atmosphere.. could easily sit all day and read a book or newspaper, a really nice oasis. Grab whichever seat you can find, might be a bit tight but find a spot. Cosy and inviting, definitely a place with a long history.

If you want to come away from Berlin saying you've eaten some real German food this is a place to visit! They fitted us in even though the table was booked for 45 mins time. Ok with us and time enough to soak up the 20s original decor and fittings as well as enjoy the food. Inexpensive, good service, relaxing... More

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighbourhood Profile
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighbourhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theatres close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
