This is a very Berliner place. We have been lucky to find this place indeed it is frequented most from Berliners and not from the tourists and/or foreigners then if you like to immerge in the Berliner atmosphere this is the best place. The menu isn't to big therefore the few things that he provides to you are very good,... More

The fact that it seemed full of locals chatting away was encouraging, and we were quickly welcomed in. Our meals were good and substantial, and quite affordable. The waiter was great - helpful and engaging, and looked after us well. It's not fancy nouvelle cuisine, but it's good nosh like you used to get at home, and with a pint... More

We had the roladen (one with dumplings one with potatoes). JUST like my parents made with buttered bread crumbs on the dumplings and potatoes. Big portions and cold beer =perfect ending to day touring Berlin. Highly recommend and service was great too!

We had "steak au four" and "steak Hawaii" and some beers and everything was great! The waiters had so much humor and were all always there.

Friendly place to have a great Eisbein! Seems to be very popular so I highly recommend to book a table to try this very Berliner dish.

This pub is in the Prenzlauerberg district and is just a few minutes walk from Eberswalderstr subway station (U2). The title in English means "Cobbler's Apprentice" and the pub has maintained its working class (sorry about the non-PC description) traditions since its foundation. Used by Communist Party members back in the day, it has very evocative features throughout and the... More

Zum Schusterjungen is an absolutely cracking famous pub in this superb area. We had already been to some fabulous pubs when we decided to drop into here. A lovely multi roomed pub with a traditional Berlin interior with great decor and plenty of seating options plus an outside seating area looking out onto the very busy Prenzlauer Berg area. The... Standby for traditional German food (Kasseler, goulash, Schweinebraten) and good beer in Prenzlauer Berg a brilliantly cosmopolitan district but one with few traditional pubs. Never let us down. Exceptional value.

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
