A group dinner in the main dining room included excellent service, interesting people watching and amazing wines. The artwork and decor is second to none, and the area is wonderful for exploring

We recently had dinner at the Austernbank. We experienced great customer service and quality of food. Being coeliac, the waiter was very accommodating and knowledgeable about suitable menu choices. We really enjoyed our visit.

Impressive surroundings. Attended a corporate function with drinks reception and nibbles. All very nice. Slightly odd walk through kitchen area to reach restaurant. Massive piece of art on the wall too. Food was ok. Service good. Imagine a "proper" meal here would be really enjoyable.

The food was bland, with an over-reliance on salt. While my Tuna was properly seared, the accompanying sauce had no distinct flavour. The accompanying risotto was more like rice-pudding. One had the impression of a jaded and unmotivated kitchen staff. The service was amateurish, when it was not patronizing. A serious problem with the bill was treated as if we... More

If you like nice surroundings, mediocre but expensive food, a hard-sell to get you to order certain menu items, and service with attitude (very puzzling, as the service was quite unprofessional - I have never seen so much wine and water spilled), then this is the place for you! But check your bill at the end. Our party of six... More

Had a meal with a number of friends who were travelling from different locations to meet up in Berlin. Saturday 03/09/2016. This restaurant is striving to be something that it's mot. One felt the service was lacking in real professional training-a presentation of options felt like a hard sell to a group of friends who were no naive teenagers. Good... More

We stumbled upon this great seafood restaurant. Hidden away in a charming bank vault. Great atmosphere. The food was delicious with huge flavours. Not your standard fare. Well priced. Staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Not to be missed

We were looking for something special for our last night in Berlin and this didn't disappoint. The vault of a former bank, the setting is great. The food and wine didn't disappoint, especially the hand made lobster cocktail (every Thursday). In a city that needs more quality dining, this is a stand-out choice. Though our waiting staff were very attentive,... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
