One of my favourite places in Berlin to take visitors. It serves traditional German food and has seasonal specials, such as asparagus, chanterelle mushrooms, pumpkin and goose, depending on the time of the year. Along with the kitsch decor and Schlager songs being played quietly in the background, I love the schnitzel and the goose (Nov-Dec only) especially. The staff... More

A German business friend of mine invited me to his favourite restaurant (and close to where he lives). The nearest station is the Sbahn at Prenzlauer Allee and its a short walk from there. This is a typical Berlin suburban Pub/Restaurant specialising in Thuringian dishes. The atmosphere and management style is charming and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My host... More

We were staying just around the corner of this gem of a restaurant. So glad we waited until our last night to pay a visit! The food was absolutely amazing, I had the Venison goulash and it was genuinely the best meal I had during my stay in Berlin. The rest of our party agreed that the food was top... More

Stopped by for a pub meal and beer on our first night in Prenzlauer Berg. And it was AMAZING. Such a great atmosphere! The pub is covered in cool little nicnaks and ornaments with dim lighting and dark wood and the bartender/waiter was really friendly. He did his best to understand our Aussie English. The food was deliciously fantastic and... More

The food was wonderful, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, the clientele was a mixture of families with children, both older and younger couples, and a few "tourists" such as ourselves. This is definitely a neighborhood gem, but I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone close to a S-Bahn line. Also easily accessible from the U-Bahn station... More

When in this area of Berlin we came across this fantastic establishment that served some of the best food we had on our trip to Berlin.Thüringer Stuben is a classic Establishment that cooks Thüringen specialities and seves Apoldaer pils.Went here before going to Badfish craft beer bar and what a place.A little folksy in here with Cuckoo clocks and twinkly... Just so you can put my review into context: I'm German and have been living in Prenzlauer Berg (the area of this restaurant) for well over 20 years. This is my favourite place for German food in Prenzlauer Berg and one of the best in Berlin, if you ask me. Food's great, service is exceptionally friendly. If you come as... More

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
