Had a meal here earlier this evening. Went for the buss up shut roti with chicken curry. Food was delivered promptly by a very friendly lady. The food was delicious, opted to get some pepper sauce on the side, very good but very spicy. Would definitely recommend and will be back next time I'm in Berlin

A friendly atmosphere and a big welcome from the hostess, Merle. We ordered the vegetarian dishes and they were excellent; tasty, spicy, filling. We also had the rum and banana and ice cream dessert which was fantastic.

Totally authentic. The aroma and taste of Trinidad Roti - we are from Arima. Dhalpourie freshly made. Chana piping hot with real good taste. All dishes garnished with a loving touch. We had the chance to meet Merl )the owner) just before she prepared our meal. She is a lovely lady. You will not be disappointed in food or service.

I'm well versed in Trinidadian food, so I was shocked & surprised to find a Trini spot in Berlin. The namesake of the place, Merle has been in Berlin since the 60's and only recently has opened this spot. Veronica and her do most of the cooking. It's legit. The rotis are so well made, you'll think you're in Chaguanas... More

I went to Merle's Roti & Rum on a midweek evening. They were seemingly short staffed or perhaps had a demanding party that were already seated and it was apparent how busy they were. However, it was clear that they wouldn't compromise on how welcoming they would be. Merle and her staff made sure to enquire how every drink and... More

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
