We were recommended this place by our taxi driver, it turned out to be a fantastic recommendation, we arrived very late in the evening, not expecting to be served, how wrong we were, a freshly cooked smoked pork chop, with potatoes and sauerkraut, all arrived piping hot and delicious, it was really good value too

This place is filled with history, but that wouldn't matter if the food was bad. But in fact it is very good and they serve Kolsch beer, which is something that most tourists never tasted. It is good to visit with friends for lunch or just to have some beers and ear some Flammkuchen - I strongly recommend it.

Whether indoors or out - out if at all possible, beside the river and overlooking Friedrichstrasse Station - this old restaurant deserves all the plaudits: fast service, if you make your wishes clearly known, outstanding German food (eg currywurst, sauerbraten recommended) and beer, and indoors wonderful historic newspapers and posters, outside river view.

We ate here a few times (for lunch and dinner) - lots to choose from, food is very fresh and tasting, prices are good for the area.

Amazing cafe serving good beer and very good food. We enjoyed it very much. And it was nice reading all the information on the walls while drinking a nice glass of beer.

We arrived for some drinks and a bite to eat on a warm sunny day. The staff seemed very busy with the lunchtime crowd which might explain why they seemed a little on the rude side. Our drinks were fine but the service was so slow that we almost left before our food order arrived. We only wanted a pizza... More

Although the only vegetarian option I could find was the Alsatian pizza, it was amazing!!! Yum. My boyfriend ate a non vegetarian option and loved it as well. It's typical German food. They serve food till very late and the vibe is great.

We went on a very busy night and were accommodated very well and seated very quickly. The staff were super friendly and calm, despite being really busy. The pork knuckle is amazing and huge! And they have Paulaner on draft which is delicious.

Thank Jeffercakes

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
