As an American arriving in Berlin 10 years ago, my first week was spent in Wedding, which at the time was less than appealing. Everything was completely foreign to me, especially the food. I've always enjoyed new experiences, but when everything is new, eventually you long for something familiar. Moving to Prenzlauer Berg, I started to get a footing, and... More

I had a salad, followed by steak, followed by tiramisu (also tried the panacotta). The salad in general was nothing to shout about, although the honey mustard dressing was delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked (I had mine rare) and perfectly seasoned (freshly ground pepper and rocksalt - simple - as it should be). It was succulent, very tender, juicy,... More

The best thing about this place, is the location in Prenzlauer Berg at Kollwitzplatz. Little or no traffic, lots of greenery all around, a pastoral scene which is delightful. I ordered a pizza and beer, not being very hungry. The beer came reasonably quickly, but the pizza was nowhere to be seen. I was at one point worried that the... More

We were completely charmed by this Italian restaurant. We loved the rucola salad, salmon-zucchini over tagliatelle, and chicken with green peppercorns and figs in white wine sauce. To drink, the Hugo cocktail (prosecco, elderflower sirup, seltzer, lime and mint). We finished with tiramisu and grappa. Excellent! As mentioned in the reviews below, the waiter was so patient and friendly. After... More

We came the first time with friends that live in Berlin. I had Zander (local fish) cooked in a wonderful mint-rosemary sauce. My partner had a salmon dish that was also good. When we found ourselves in the same neighborhood again we both chose to return.Orlando recognized us and was most welcoming. I had a delicious rump steak, my partner... More

The ambiance was unassuming and perfect. A nice florid mural on the ceiling. Restaurant is on a peaceful square. Service was very attentive. Nice tomato soup. Excellent rugula, proscuitto, parmesan pizza. Prices reasonable.

The Istoria is well-located and has the appearance of something Italianisch-kinda-sort-of, but that's about it. The place with as well serve up Bier vom Fass and Pretzels. It has zero-to-nothing to do with Italian. Pizzas are okay, but don't get your hopes up.

We went there after reading a review in "Le routard" which appeared to be quite accurate. My wife had the bruschetta and spaghetti con pommodoro and basil (which had to be searched for). Big chunks of garlic in the bruschetta. I had the various antipasti platter and that was really huge and afterwards the tagliatelle with mushrooms (too few tagliatelle... More

We stumbled upon this restaurant because we happened to be in the area but it was a good find. Between us, we had a pizza, pasta and some asparagus specials and everything tasted great! We sat outside, the service was great and the waitress was friendly and accommodating to our children.

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
