Traditional food from the Mainz area, many local (and other) wines by the glass, friendly atmosphere, outside seating to watch Mainz stroll past you on a sunny day. A very relaxing place to spend a couple of hours on any summer trip to Mainz

Very tipical winehaus in the old Center of Mainz. The Building is very beautifull and you don't see turists. There's mainly locals. Don't acept credit Card.

This is a very friendly place with local wines at reasonable prices and snacks which normally accompany wines in this part of Germany. The staff are attentive without being intrusive and the local customers are welcoming and friendly. Don't worry if all tables are occupied; if there is space to share this is expected and is traditional. A fantastic way... More

we prefer this place to have a glass of dry riesling from the 'rheingau' region, always worth a visit. the selection of wines is very good, prices reasonable (0,2l:3,7-4,6 €) and the owner will welcome you personally. if you feel adventurous you may combine your wine with regional snacks such as 'handkaes with music' (a very intense munster cheese with... Saturday in Mainz is market day so many of the bars and restaurants in the old part of town were very busy. We cam across Spiegel and the food being eaten outside looked good and we were lucky enough to grab the last table for two. The menu is only available in German but there is a very helpful gentleman... More

Have never been to a German Weinhaus before but this was quite different to any restaurant/bar we have been to before. As the only non-German speakers in the bar we weren't sure what to expect. The host went out of his way to help us and we tried a couple of the local wines which we also quite different to... More

If you are visiting Mainz, Never forget to go to the SPIEGEL to refresh. The wine you can taste is homegrown, the food is very typical! Taste the "nackische" (literally: naked) which is fresh, uncooked pig-meat with salt end pepper (yes, it IS raw meat, but how tasty!) or have a "handkees" which is served with oil, vinaigrette and onions... We would not go to Mainz without a visit to Zum Spiegel. The atmosphere is Old Town with light Fare and a wide wine selection. Togetherness is the norm on weekends. A great way to meet and talk with the locals. The owner assures a seat for everyone and is a real treat to watch him pour wine to the... More

Located in the heart of old Mainz you’ll find a wonderful example of a half-timber framed building with a nice terrace full of tables and umbrellas. You’ll probably take a picture as it’s a charming example. Take the time to stop at this cute wine pub! It’s a wonderful place to stay a while. Enjoy the terrace or the warm... More
