The "Keller" wich means basement is a typical german thing. Many city Halls have a "Ratskeller", a lot of these basements are historic vaulted places. They are and reamains however, rooms without a view. The typical fare served here is the "Gutbürgerliche Küche" (homestyle meals), the athmosphere is usually that of a beergarten, heimat muxic, waitresses in Dirndels but the... More

Although there were tons of other tourists we really liked this place, the food and the atmosphere. We all had suckling pig, really a good option.

Traditional, tasty german food. Always nice to enjoy a meal under old vaults. No problem to get gluten free alternative at dinner. Serviceminded staff. A minstrel entertained us with his guitar and bagpipe.

This restaurant in the basement of a former church is awesome! The decor is very Old World German, the waitstaff are great, the food is to die for. Desert is a must.

As soon as you enter the place, you're immersed in a medieval atmosphère. The service is dressed in traditional cloths, the place is finely decorated in the same style and you have a guy playing and singing. Wooden tables and chairs and a quite simple furniture. The food is again very traditional but the quality is decent, if you consider... More

Grab your belt-the great, traditional German dishes abound. Boar, pork, wurst, potato balls, excellent beer, and in a comfortable, relaxed setting.

Decent yet not impressive. The home made bread is however definitely a plus. If you have never tried a typical saxon tavern, you may try it, or pick any other.

We had dinner at the Sophienkeller restaurant with friends in mid September... the restaurant is in a cellar (keller), but is very large and open, with split-level seating... the décor is a mix of medieval to eighteenth century, and the wait staff wear period clothing (thematic, but not campy)... the food is good, traditional Saxony fare... the staff were very... It's more about the atmosphere and ambience here than food or drink, though they are very good as well. The service is superb and you get a good Saxon experience.

This restaurant is right in the centre of Dresden and is in a cellar. It is very large with quite a lot of big tables which you may have to share. The setting and the food is very typically German and helpings are large.
