We had hoped to enjoy the food of this highly rated Bilbao restaurant but instead met with very surly waiters who made the start of our evening quite uncomfortable when they reprimanded us for not confirming our reservation. This might have been acceptable if the...More

Recommended by hotel and not disappointed. Comfortable setting, modern clean lines, good food and service. Cod, squid and Hake dishes were expertly prepared. Grilled vegetable and other starters were delicious. Wine selection of local wines and cheese were very nice. Not a fish and chips...More

This a very classical basque restaurant in the city center. We got good recommendations for perretxicos (mushrooms) and cardo (vegetable). After that we tried two different kinds of cod which were very good although not optimal, and nice desserts. The service was very good, the...More

Bilbao has a plethora of excellent restaurants but Guria has to be amongst the top 5. I arranged to have a business dinner with my team and they were all extremely impressed. The menu is typically Basque. The quality of the food, wine and service...More

We had dinner at this restaurant primarily because everything else we tried was full. As it turned out, it was one of the best meals of the trip. We were ushered into the back room which, while empty, was elegantly set with white tablecloths. We...More

The waiters are very friendly (which is not always the case in Bilbao) the cuisine was fresh and of quality, the fish of the day was perfectly served with a side dish.

Apparently this restaurant has a long history and is quite favoured by locals. It was recommended to me by locals as well, although I have to say I could probably rave more about the staff (they were impeccable) than the food. Don't get me wrong,...More

Description
Guria restaurant in Bilbao is a short walk across Doña Casilda Park from the iconic Euskalduna Palace and worth every step. Guria has widely known as a temple of traditional Basque gastronomy for nearly sixty years – ten at this location – and the kitchen is still under the watchful eye of chef Genaro Pildain and his partner Carlos. Guria is divided into two parts. The luxurious, formal dining room is decorated in the English style in tones of taupe with leather seating, thick carpets and drapes that can be pulled to create private enclaves. The buzzing, brasserie-like bistrot, with its more affordable prices, features a long wood and brass bar, chequered tile floors, and an informal air. Wherever you sit, do not miss one of the two famous cod dishes, either simmered very slowly ‘al pil-pil’ or a la Vizcaina, as Pildain is known as the King of Cod. Wines are service are exemplary
