Amazing food with surprising twists

Lovely intimate restaurant with amazing food - modern takes on traditional Mallorcan recipes all cooked with local produce and with a few surprising twists. The restaurant was very accommodating as my wife and I wanted to order the tasting menu and wine pairing (excellent value at €85 or €65 without the wine), but the kids just wanted a main course. The highlight of the tasting menu for us was the seafood cappuccino- really imaginative and full of surprising flavours.

We stumbled across this fantastic little restaurant by chance on our first night in La Palma and had a wonderful meal. The friendly and welcoming hostess took great care of us and ensured that we got to experience some exceptional local food and wine (who knew that there were orange wines? - Brisat de Puntiro). The food was prepared to a very level with great care and attention. The young husband and wife team have great chemistry and have found the right balance in terms of the number of people they will serve at any one time to ensure that they can provide a high level of service. It all came together to create a wonderful intimate experience that we will think back on fondly for years to come. Highly recommended!

I went to this small restaurant with my girlfriend and we had a delicious dinner. The owners are really kind and the chef proposes particular dishes with elaborate preparations. We probably ate the best salmon tartare of our life. Everything is expressly cooked by the chef and you can easily feel the quality. I strongly recommend to try the Ravioli “Carbonara Explosion”.

What a delicious enjoyable dinner 🤩

We have enjoyed a remarkable evening with creative and delicious dishes, excellent pairing wines and an attentive charming service prepared by a lovely Italian young lady from Sardinia. The pricing was absolutely reasonable as we had the Great Tasting Menue. The Restaurant was fully booked, so reservations are recommended. Guests from all ages and nationalities created a nice atmosphere, beeing not to stylish and well mixed.

Well worth a visit

This little restaurant certainly lives up to its ethos of using good produce and combining of interesting ingredients and flavours. Excellent service and great food and wine (I had the house white Verdejo, which is the wine I usually have with dinner). I had the seafood capuccino, which was amazing, some very good bread, and the organic egg. One of the disappointing things I found (to my surprise, as I usually find the coffee to be excellent in Spain and the Islands) was average coffee in most cafes and restaurants I went to in Palma. At the end of my meal at Bistro Esencia I had a cortado which was excellent. I also like to have a brandy with my coffee at the end of my meal. The lovely waitress recommended a Mallorcan brandy which I hade not had before and it was superb, with subtle floral notes and a very refined alcohol taste. Well worth having, although it ain't cheap !!

A little treasure in Santa Catalina

Esencia is a small tiny restaurant in south Santa Catalina, a trendy quater plenty of cozy venues just nearby the Palma marina. This quite bistrot is run by a young couple, but don't get me wrong, they're anything but unexperienced. The menu proposes a short list of curated dishes with the tipical international formula (starter-main-dessert) and a vivid Italian twist. Ingredients scream freshness and even though vegetables make the scene, special guests like truffle or guanciale peek out for the measure of our mouths. The offer is completed by an assorted list of local and european wines, usually well combined with some courses proposed on the big blackboard on the wall in the middle of the room. If you're looking for something apart the crowded turistic locations, willing to get a truly mediterranean culinary experience, this is the place. Little gem.

Fantastic place in regard of food, service and ambience. Homemade fish and vegetable dishes, made with fresh ingrediences. An young couple (owners) make a great effort in providing great service and a variaty of different taste (menu). And very affordable prices (50euro for the vegetarian menu).

I don't usually leave reviews - in general - but when a place really deserves it, like the Esencia bistro, it becomes impossible to avoid it. My girlfriend and I spent a truly wonderful evening here, a journey through flavors like we have rarely experienced. Everything was perfect and attention was paid to the smallest details: from the starter (the gazpacho, delicate and delicious in which all the flavors were clearly distinguishable) to the first course (the ravioli alla carbonara, tasty but delicate at the same time) to the fish of the day, that is, amberjack cooked and very tasty in its sauce. To conclude the dessert, and all the courses we decided to accompany them with the wine proposed on the menu for a real journey of flavours. Simply good, good and more good! We will recommend it to everyone passing through Palma de Mallorca because culinary experiences like this are truly rare. We will try to return as soon as possible!

We had a great dinner, the food was really amazing. Revisited Italian dishes in an amazing way. Cocktails super special too! Loved the tiger spicy margarita We live in Paris and are used to really good food and we were amazed by the chef’s touch. I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a fabulous meal at their restaurant. The service was excellent, the staff were attentive and knowledgeable without being intrusive. The food itself was absolutely stunning. Each dish was expertly prepared and the presentation on the plates was great. I can thoroughly recommend the restaurant!

If you have the chance don’t miss this restaurant. A cozy restaurant with a familiar atmosphere(you can really feel it) and least but not last,a great food experience. Everything is home made. We tried the seafood cappuccino, a really tasty and clever dish. Pumpkin Gnocchi are incredibles ,an explosions of flavours !!! We’ve been there twice in a year,and we got a big surprsise!! They change the menu seasonally, by using in fact seasonal and local organics products. Most of the wines that you can drink here are Mallorcan and personally selected,you can also try a lot of them by glass. We love it! Of course you have to try their upside down Tiramisù.

Amazing experience in this cozy restaurant. They use only local organics products from the island (also meet) that the chef exalt with a modern touch and creativity. All the plates are realized with a prefect combination of ingredients, where all the contrast are perfectly balanced. The wine list is focused in local and organics wine, and each plate is paired with a different one by glass. We tried seafood cappuccino, truffled bio egg and the wild mallorcan Amberjack. And we can raccomend everything. And don’t miss their dessertd, just amazing! Especially the upside down tiramisú.

Home Made with Love

We had such a joyful evening with the most amazingly delicious food. Everything is homemade, served and made with so much love and attention to detail. The location is small and utterly pretty. Fortunately, slightly off the very busy streets of Santa Catalina. As this was not enough, the owner is Queen of Ice Cream! The restaurant has a good wine selection and we are back next week!

Amazing Experience

Intimate and cozy restaurant in the center of Palma. We chose a five-course tasting, we were amazed by the quality and freshness of the products, the preparation of the dishes and the presentation of the dishes. The entree was a kind of salty praline with olives, dried tomatoes, orange, sprinkled with almond grains, a delight. Then marinated tartare with melon and an excellent gazpacho sorbet, for mine Husband instead a sort of fish soup served in a cup as if it were a cappuccino, fantastic. As a first course, a very successful reinterpretation of the classic “Carbonara” ravioli with thin hand-pulled dough filled with cheese and egg, served with crispy bacon, on cream cheese with a smoky flavor. Following fillet of amberjack, with sautéed jackdaws and almonds. Finally a tiramisu “in reverse”, chocolate base, then mascarpone cream and over a coffee pod, really good. Impeccable service, attentive and courteous. Relaxing atmosphere. Good wine list. We had a great time, a special thanks to Andrea and congratulations to the two chefs.
