About
Sa Volta and La Cueva were two adjoining Tapas bars owned and run by the Nieto brothers. (I think their parents established them.) Sa Volta was TINY but they have now connected the two bars and they are packed out every night. The food is incredible. The service is excellent.

This restaurant was right across from our hotel, so we had passed it several times and were curious about it. On our last night we decided to test it. And the start was good: We got a great table, the owner greeted us and took our orders with a smile. Our bottle of cava (very good!) as well as bread, olives and the first of our tapas were served right away. But from then on, our experience went downwards: Nobody checked if we were happy with the food, the remaining tapas dishes were delivered without a smile, for half an hour we tried to get someone to bring us another bottle of water, so the service really stopped abruptly as soon as we had placed our order.
The tapas were ok, but not spectacular. So I’m sure you can get better tapas at other places. The price level, the atmosphere and the (initial) service was quite good, which makes me rank this restaurant a 4. The last part of our stay would definitely have indicated a 3 instead.

On a visit to Palma we wanted to taste some authentic Spanish paella for lunch, we decided to choose this restaurant because it looked good from the outside and had a great selection of tapas dishes which you can see at the front of the restaurant there were a few tables spare so the waitress waved us over.
There were only 2 members of staff in the restaurant but they managed the orders and service well even though by this point every table was full.
My husband had a beer and I had a sangria which was good. We ordered the mixed paella and was told it would take thirty minutes which was fine we ordered the bread olives & alioli to put us on.
The paella arrived in a big pan and looked amazing it was really tasty my only criticism is that there was hardly any meat or fish in it , it did fill us so therefore left a lot of the rice.

We had a wonderful family dinner here and loved the place.
The small tapas dishes are so good and there is a lot to choose from.
The local red wine the serve is great and cost 19 euros for a bottle.
Great value and great food.
We will be back.

We had a late dinner in this place and it was by far the worst food experience of our holidays. The service was terrible, the waitress was literally throwing plates in front of us. The food was presented on the plate in a very unappealing way. We pretty much didn’t like anything we ordered. They even managed to serve a disgusting sangria! I didn’t know it was even possible. So sweet and sticky I had to pour water into it to be able to drink it. And I absolutely love all sorts of Sangria. For the rest of out stay in Palma we researched places to eat in and had amazing experiences. So in short, avoid this place.

There are definitely better tapas restaurants in palma. The Iberian ham and prawns were good. Although, the croquettes and potatoes were clearly frozen/out of a packet. The overall experience was poor, staff didn’t ask if our meal was OK and it just felt rushed. As soon you had finished your meal they wanted you out, so they can sit more customers. Sadly, we won’t be returning.

We ate at La Cueva on October 3rd, 2023 and were looking forward to a great evening! Unfortunately, we were disappointed all along the line. Despite a prior reservation, nobody was interested in it in advance and the two of us were directed to a table of four. Unfortunately, we did not experience hospitality. We were given the impression that everything had to go quickly. The waitress came at short intervals to ask if we had already chosen. After ordering, all the dishes were served within 10 minutes. The food was really only mediocre and rather average in taste. The dishes were served without love and unfortunately you had the impression that they were canned goods. Freshly prepared food unfortunately looks different. Especially with the mushrooms you had the impression that they came from a can. Unfortunately, the bread served was also very dry and far from "fresh". After just 40 minutes we had finished everything and had no need for "any more"! It's a shame, but we had expected much more from the ambience and the reviews. Other restaurants in Palma have much more to offer here!

We had a lovely meal here. The restaurant was very busy and had a lovely atmosphere.
I think the staff were slightly bemused by our rather large order (tapas in the UK are often tiny portions) and advised we ordered fewer. They were clearly surprised at how much we were able to eat! The food was delicious, traditional tapas.

On our arrival day we needed to find a spot of lunch. So walking around central Palma, we came across Sa Volta. With the traditional hams hanging just inside and a counter with good looking tapas, we ventured in…
Not the warmest of welcomes, to a sparsely populated venue.
We chose our food and sadly the front of the restaurant has no bearing on the food one is served.
Disappointing to say the least.

Situated on a corner of Calle Apuntadors, we visited here on a Saturday afternoon. The menu is extensive with a great choice of tapas which are reasonably priced. We enjoyed the octopus Gallego and the mixed croquettes washed down with a jug of Sangria. The waiters were all incredibly friendly and polite, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the service was great. Recommended

We had been to La Cueva on our last visit to Palma and thought we would return
We had a table booked for 7pm , we arrived a few minutes early and were shown to a small dining area and were free to choose our table , we chose the perfect table adjacent to an unused door , which provided us with a refreshing breeze
Within seconds of sitting down a surly , unsmiling , unwelcoming, female waitress
arrived and abruptly asked us if we wanted water and wine !
She quickly bought our drinks and immediately wanted to know what food we wanted , every thing was very rushed , even though the restaurant was very quiet , with plenty of staff
The food arrived swiftly , which was good as we were hungry
The padron peppers were divine and plentiful !
The potatas bravos were very poor , the potatoes hadn’t been cooked long enough , so weren’t crisp and the sauce was bland and meagre , very disappointing for such a simple dish
The Tostas Sobrasada were absolutely delicious , the toast was made with brown bread and toasted perfectly and the Sobrasda was perfect and a great portion size too
The Calamari in batter were a disappointment also , albeit a generous portion , they were under cooked and soft , served with a dry piece of lemon , with no mayo or salad , again another simple dish that had been cooked badly
Every thing seemed to be rushed from the service to the cooking !
The female waitress was very unpleasant and to say it was the start of her shift , we wouldn’t like to have been served by her at the end of it !
The only positive thing I can say about her service is that she agreed with our choice of 4 dishes for 2 people ( as the portion sizes are very generous)
Had we been seated in the middle section we would’ve been served by a very friendly helpful smiley male waiter who wears glasses , which would’ve been much better
Overall 2 of our dishes were delicious, 2 were awful
Would we go back , sadly not !

Previewed this wonderful tapas bar from the outside the day before we experienced it. Had to go back as from the outside it looked worth a visit. Very authentic with wonderful service. Found down an old town street (Carter Dels Apuntadors) the food on show looks as delicious as it tastes. Cheese and ham is authentic delicious and spanish. Service is friendly. Don’t walk past it without tasting it’s delights. Tapas at its best.

On walking past the counter looks amazing stocked with fresh foods and variety, in reality the calamari and patatas bravas were frozen and tasted of nothing, meatball were nice and flavourful but cold in the middle. We sat at the counter for an hour and only once did we see any of the staff use the produce on display to serve customers. The street it’s on has many amazing restaurants so pass this one and go somewhere worth your time and money

Fantastic place.
Incredible atmosphere in a cave of a cellar, as the name describes.
Fantastic menu, with a multitude of great dishes. Older, white-haired gentlemen, with long experience, who expertly look after their guests with a sure hand.
Good food, good turnover, which ensures fresh goods.
Highly recommended.

When arriving we were asked to wait 2 minutes for a table. It took 20 minutes. I ordered mussels, and it was OK for the waiter. 15 minutes after my wife got her very nice mixed seafood portion I asked about my order. They said that they ran out of mussels. Nobody noticed that I don't have food and even wine. Well I ordered grilled sardines which were terrible. No excuses or compensations. And of course our evening was a disappointment because of this.

Staff advised i had ordered enough for two before i was ready to order more… and they were right! The baby squids were delicious and the chuletas of lamb were to die for. A big thank you to the staff for making our evening one to remember. Recommended highly
