We were 3 friends and ordered 3 main dishes. When the plates arrived, we thought it was a mistake and that they brought us just tapas. The plates were almost empty, definitely not a main course. When the bill arrived, we realized that it wasn't a joke. 20€ per plate: totally overpriced. Moreover the food was really not good, not... More

We had our last lunch in Barcelona in this restaurant and we couldn't choose a better place, it was sunny so we had lunch outside. The service was good and also the food was good, in particular our paella was excellent. I surely recommend it for a group pf friends, a couple or a family. Very nice restaurant, a bit... More

Came here for drinks with the possibility of lunch with a group of 10. The waiting staff were rather rude and didn't seem to want such a big group at the restaurant. The waitress seemed annoyed that we were taking chairs for other customers (there were plenty of free tables and chairs) and seemed confused when we asked for a... More

We ate here and at La Gavina and we would say that La Gavina pipped it - however we enjoyed our meal here nevertheless. We both had seafood paella and it was very good. Pricey probably due to the location but worth a trip if you are in the area or can't get into La Gavina lower down.

Waiter seemed insulted when we preferred to sit in a more quiet area than the one she wanted us to sit. Ordered a shell-fish platter (at 30 Euros) expecting something fresh. Got a bowl of anonymous ingredients from the lowest shelf of shell fish so to speak - in a grey sauce which mainly tasted of the added ham. Ok... More

We were treated to dinner by some friends who live just outside Barcelona. It was a fabulous meal, with excellent tapas to start, very fresh seabass for the main course and some sumptuous desserts. They brought the fish to show us first before preparing it in the local way, baked in salt. We ordered an excellent Rioja to accompany the... More

My wife and I have dined twice at Cal Pinxo but I am uncertain if my review is for the right spot. Just around the corner from the Archeological museum as you walk the Barcenoletta promenade toward the sea is a smaller restaurant to the right around the corner of the brick building with two wonderful staff,Jason and Tanya. The service... It is always unsettling when one's opinion of a restaurant is at odds with that of many other writers. We would find it very difficult to fault anything about our lunch at Cal Pinxo. The starters which included exquisite deep-fried prawns were excellent: the Seafood Paella and the Arroz Negre were superb, the rice in both cases perfectly cooked and... More

We enjoyed fantastic lunch in the terrace on a gorgeous sunny day. Berberechos as starters very juicy, lubina at classic donostiarra recipe fresh and escamarlants sweet and well cooked. Service was attentive and prices medium high

Description
With amazing views of the Port Vell Marina, Cal Pinxo is decorated to be carefully informal in all the soft blues and aquas of the sea and sky. The restaurant has broad windows and a terrace directly looking out onto the Mediterranean. After postres, you can take a stroll on the marina or in the Barceloneta. The menu is classic Catalan with special emphasis on things that swim. Start with a plate of fresh clams then do not miss their paella, then maybe some creme catalana or egg flan. Service is professional and quick, and there's a children's menu, too.

Staying in Barceloneta

Neighbourhood Profile
Barceloneta
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.
