At our first visit we had lunch and it was good. Then we had dinner and it was better. And at our last visit we had lunch again and it was delicious!!! Cocktail of mariscos - excellent, bouillabaisse - marvelous (and believe me the portion is as big as you can have it for 3 persons), entrecote with Roquefort cheese... More

This was our second time in Paco Alcalde restaurant. The restaurant has been in business since 1921 and is family run. A few years ago looking for an authentic dorada dish we stumbled into this restaurant. It is a place where locals eat and we are always more interested in such than the very touristy places on the beach or... More

Great wholesome food. If you're on a diet or a vegan, you might want to stay away. But if you like traditional food in deliciously generous portions, that's the place for you. Plenty of fish and seafood, though if you don't want that, go for the leg of lamb. You'll thank me later.

This place came with great reviews and when I managed to go try it, I was quite disappointed. We ordered the fideos negros and a fish parrillada. They brought us the fish first and the noodles later. I specifically ordered the noodles first, and they said it's the same and many people eat them like this. I don't know if... More

We were told this restaurant had a good paella and after having 4 days of exceptional food in Barcelona this has to be our biggest let down ! The chairs were covered in crumbs and sticky arms , not a great start!!!The razor clams were tasteless and not properly cooked , the paella was dry and tasteless , we have... More

This is the second time I visited them. I always eat the menu, which includes a bottle of wine for two. Their seafood is excellent, tasty and fresh. I would definitely return!

We were a team of six people and went for the lunch in this restaurant. The atmosphere was very warm and the people/staff were very kind. The restaurant is run by a family and has a heritage of more than 100 years. We had a combination of 6 starters/tapas and two types of paella plus house wine. Everything was god... More

Seemed to be a family run business close to the beach. We had two entrees which were fairly good. My dish was a chicken paella - well prepared and tasty. The other entree was sausage and beans which was good too. Service was great and it was topped off with a free aperitif.

A genuinely Spanish family restaurant with a true understanding of good food from the sea. We had the seafood paella and the black rice from the "House specialty " section of the menu. Never ate better paella in my life and the black rice was awesome with the aioli to go with it. I bet our waiter was grandpa of... More

I have eaten here on several visits to Barcelona and it can be tricky to find but well worth trekking through the Barceloneta and getting off the beaten track. Its a seafood restaurant and they do it well. The squid "a la plancha" is really good as are the rice dishes but everything is delicious.

Staying in Barceloneta

Neighbourhood Profile
Barceloneta
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.
