A friend of mine dragged me to this bar, she was talking about the best gyn and Tonic and blah blah blah, I couldt stop her talking and talking about this bar. She told me that the bar was so old and that havent been changed for ages. I was thinking about it and it was a surprise that a... More

Okay okay, I only sought this place out because it was the former hangout of Hemingway, Picasso, Dalí, and Gaudí, but I actually loved the bar as a whole. The entire place is lined with dusty bottles and old time mirrors- so cool to sit IN history. Hemingway supposedly used to order the absinthe, so I had to try. I... More

This bar looks like it hasn't changed since the 19th Century - the paint on the ceiling is peeling, the curtains had seen better days etc. but this all adds to the charm. They have a full bar but the only thing you should really drink here is the absinthe. For less than €5, you get a large glass of... More

A hard to find Gem in the back streets just off La Ramblas. Very friendly staff explain the history of the drink and how to enjoy it! Beware the Green Fairy, she creeps up on you!!!

This bar comes highly recommended in all the guides as a place to follow in the footsteps of every artist, writer, architect etc who had Bohemian leanings and liked a drop of absinthe after a hard day's work. The bar is wonderfully atmospheric as if preserved in time. The absinthe has to be tried although it's not the best I've... More

Fell in love with the atmosphere of this bar, one of the oldest in Barcelona. It looks like you could see Dali having a drink at the bar! The absinth

Went there for Absinthe. The bar looks really very old and going by what every one was ordering, looked like it served only Absinthe. The staff are not very friendly. They did explain the correct way to have absinthe though. The drinks are cheap. My first drink was around 5 euros and then subsequent drink was 3 something. After 3... More

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
