We got here early for lunch (probably around 12:15) the restaurant was empty. The service was a tad slow but it's Spain so we were fine with it. We ordered quite a few things (Croquetas, Buñuelos de bacalao, Patatas bravas)- all were very good. We got the mixed paella which was kind of eh- it was weirdly creamy. About 45... More

We needed a quick place to eat between museum visits and this fits the bill. I would normally walk in a few blocks into Las Letras, but we did not have that kind of time. It is a tapas style restaurant with modern takes on Spanish classics. We ordered the artichoke hearts, jamon and mushroom tostada, piperade with tuna and... More

We went there twice for lunch. The first time we ate tapas and mussels and we were quite satisfied. Tortillas are good. On our second time we tried "paella mixta" but it was far too salty and kind of not eatable. Don't expect English speaking, like almost everywhere in Madrid.

Estado Puro, which was mentioned several times for tapas, etc in the Pocket Madrid guidebook has changed entirely. Now only liquor and a very abbreviated menu that wasn't very good. I guess its prime location right across from the Prado was too expensive for a tapas bar. (The Pocket Madrid gets highest marks, easy to carry in your pocket).

Sat outside and was lucky to get a table at 2pm. Varied menu but slow service d/t it being full. Ate a traditional Spanish omelette, which was good.

We wanted some light, casual food after 5 hours touring the Prado and taking the sightseeing bus around town. We were delighted to find a table outside (and no one was smoking!) and really enjoyed ourselves. Although the place was quite busy, the server acknowledged us promptly and brought our drinks pretty quickly. We enjoyed the hamburger sliders, chicken wings,... More

lunch time on a sunday got a bit crowded, but the service staff did an admirable job of keeping things moving promptly. our party of three adults ordered variety of tapas dishes and each was delicious. we were told that our order for paella would require a 25 minute wait, which it did. the other tapas dishes came along and... The one and only time I have ever walked out of a restaurant! When we arrived the staff were rushing around manically although it wasnt that busy. It took an age to come and get our order. I speak sufficient spanish to get by on holiday and have never had any real problems in restaurants. I explained 2 of us... More

We ate here twice, mostly because the first time we had such good food and it was a peaceful, convenient spot. The second time we went it was busier and the service was not so attentive, but the food was still good. Recommend the bunuelos de bacalao (cod fritters).

Staying in Paseo del Prado

Neighbourhood Profile
Paseo del Prado
The area around the elegant Paseo del Prado boulevard is much-visited by both locals and tourists. The world-famous Prado, the Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums form a triangle of art and culture that spans this grand and beautiful avenue. On weekdays, the Prado Museum opens its doors for free after-work hours, drawing a diverse and excited queue of art lovers that wraps around the block. Palacio de Cibeles and Círculo de Bellas Artes cultural centers are other artsy hangouts to check out, with rooftop bars that provide impressive views of the city. While the Paseo del Prado and its roundabouts form a busy throughway in Madrid, a broad green pedestrian park in the middle is a calm and gorgeous place for a relaxing stroll. Just east of the museums, the Retiro Park is always a confluence of activity as families and friends of all ages take to the pretty paths and lawns to stretch their legs or to have a picnic.
